Originally the dealer we got them from defaulted on the bid. Then they started having electrical problems which prompted Kawi NA to put a stop on any dealer setting up police bikes.

So out department changed the bids to require any bike submitted be 'factory certified' which is only the BMW and Harley since Kawi is still working on theirs

So I assume Kawi will re-enter the bidding process at a later date when they have the electrical issues squared away?

I hope so, this bid is for two years but its open ended. Meaning once they fill the order we can request more batches without going through bid again. But we don't have to exercise that option if we're not happy with the bike (ie: they blow up left and right which is what most of the PDs are telling us)

We got a couple of those where I work. I rode one of them and I was pretty surprised. They really aren't all that slow and they handle decently. :dunno

It's a small department, but Madera PD has had them for a number of years, including the latest version.
The bikes are simular to a well trained horse, when they are led to the trailer, they pretty much load themselves out of habit.

So do the commercial unit trucks have trailer hitches or will you guys just be using FSP? :p

I cut up a styrofoam 7-11 cooler and lined one saddlebag and filled it with ice for my drinks. People would point out that I was leaking fluid. I shrugged and said, "Hey, it's a Harley. It's supposed to do that."

The 1150s have the overflow hoses that stick out like 6 inches from the bottom of the bike. One time I loaded up with gas and was sitting on the side stand in a parking lot and a guy walks by and points it out and says "hey man your bike is leaking something". "Yeah I know it's just gas"

The look on his face was classic :laughing

I've had a ticket, I feel like a criminal

Edit: real criminals that actually engage in full out pursuits usually drive shit cars anyway that I won't have a problem keeping up with. As long as I have an extra quart in the saddle bag I can drop in on the fly

Well that did not take long. Saw a CHP Harley in SF today on 8th St, riding next to another CHP moto officer on a BMW. No doubt the BMW rider will be getting 'upgraded' soon too.
