I keep hearing about people who aren't healthcare workers or over 65 getting the vaccine. What am I not understanding?

My understanding is that due to the nature of the vaccine (needs to be kept super refrigerated) once the batch is opened, you *have* to use it up or it goes bad.

If a batch goes to like a nursing home or something, and 20 of the workers on site decide they don't want to take it then better 20 people in the 1B priority category get their shot early, than the vaccine get dumped and help no one.

Consider suffering a little bit before medicating for the vaccine. Studies have shown OTC meds like ibuprofen and acetaminophen when taken before a vaccine are linked to less effective immune response.

"They" say it's OK to take meds once you feel crummy, with the idea being that your body was able to mount an appropriate response.

Q. Should I take Tylenol or Motrin before my vaccination?
A. If you regularly take aspirin, acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol) and ibuprofen (e.g., Motrin, Advil) for other medical conditions, continue to do so as directed by your physician or as needed. Otherwise, do not pre-medicate.

Taking over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen before receiving a vaccine may reduce its ability to work and blunt your immune response to the vaccine. After the vaccination, don’t hesitate to take an over-the-counter medication if you have symptoms that make you uncomfortable.

How is it you were vaccinated?

Nothing DD has shared would lead me to believe he is in a currently qualifying tier in California for a vaccine. Something isn't adding up.

I'm currently in tier 1 of 1b. My county is supposedly vaccinating people in that tier. Yet I'm still waiting.

um, wild speculations...

Oh, thank you! Here I had my conspiracy hat on thinking this was like...I better not say.

Lolwut

Fewer side effects are better in my world.

Do you think I eat bitter melon soup and suck kale and spinach smoothies because they go down like Haggen Dazs ice-cream bars? Feel the burn, YO!

But I do like a Haggen-Dazs ice-cream, with nutz :teeth

I wonder how that works for second doze. If someone got their first doze because it was either give or shot or throw it out, will they now on list to get second one?

Maybe DD got an update from McAfee?

Just to circle back and close the loop, I had zero symptoms with the 2nd shot, as opposed to all the symptoms with the first. Not even a sore arm this time. As usual, I’m assbackwards!

Those of you concerned about Pfizer. Remember they made viagra so if you if you have a bad reaction, you’ll either feel like shit or have a raging hard on haha

I have fatal allergies.
That is why I am asking. As a welt or hive is the first sign of the darkness to come.
If Doc has a welt, for sure I will.

I am asking in order to decide if I should be near an urgent care vs an ER when I get my vaccine.

Just found out from my mom that my 95 year old dad is reluctant to get the vaccine because he's concerned about the side-effects.

I got my first shot of Moderna last Tuesday. My second shot is scheduled for 2/23.
I had zero side effects other than some soreness in my arm that lasted no more than 2 days. I must say, the process was extremely efficient and well run. It took me longer to park my truck than it did to get vaccinated.

I did. It was raised, red, and swollen. In fact, it was still bruised when I got the second one. No swelling, redness, or bruising with the second one though. No side effect at all with the second, but I took Tylenol and ibuprofen, which multiple people suggested and worked.

1) Tell him about the side effects of getting covid.

2) Your dad is 95??? Wow.

Yeah...I may see if I can get ahold of his doctor and see if he can convince my dad to get it. He's in great health, and goes for twice daily walks with my mom. I don't think he's got much to be worried about from the vaccine.

LOL he'll actually be 95 in May. I'm turning 41 this year. He got around as a younger man before he met my mom :laughing

Both me and my wife got Moderna. I had a bit of a sore arm the next day, but my wife had it the first through third days. No other reactions. We'll be getting our booster within the next two weeks.

Just remeber that if you are immuno-compromised, days 7 to 10 might be quite a bit shittier for you than for the average person. It seems to be a fairly common issue.
