'Win on Sun, Sell on Mon' is no longer a viable sales strategy in motorcycle racing as can be seen in today's current market. If it was then the paddock would be full of manufacturers in all series and sponsorships would flourish
really? You don't think Hayes would race a 3cyl? I bet you if Yamaha wants him to race 1... he will race 1.
seem to recall Dominguez (4 wins countless podiums) and DiSalvo (5 podiums + a win) being on the box just a few times this year... I guess AMA doesn't qualify as professional racing in your opinion?
ftfy
i knew someone would call me out on not incl AMA in my thoughts, coulda put $$ on it thatd be u.
as it stands now, AMA is not a true test for a manufacturer's development skills. Yamaha would never develop a new bike hoping to get Hayes on it to win that 'ship; all their effort would go into WSBK/WSS.
but rly, thats just my opinion on that matter (AMA)... im not the one that absurdly wrote that Yamaha would be replacing the R6 & R1.
:laughing:thumbup
true, Duc garnered a ton of US market share using GP exposure without winning anything . but there is something to be said for the factories actually doing development in a racing series. they tend to skip out pretty quick (as seen in WSBK) after introducing a new bike, but at least they did something.
yamaha doesnt have a wsbk team.
...Laverda made a version of their 1000cc triple with the two outer pistons 180 degrees out from the center one. Don't know if they included a counter balancer, but probably not. I don't think that engine lasted too long before they switched back to 120 degree offsets between each of the three pistons. And let's not forget that MV did very well in GP racing with triples.
because rossi and jorge winning in motogp does far far more for the brand than any wins in wsbk, or even titles
I don't know if I believe this whole triple Yami thing, yet.
No point,no advantage to a triple other than being different just for the sake of novelty.

MotoGP.com said:Due to unit cylinder performance and power-to-weight ratio, all the MotoGP manufacturers opted to use four cylinder engines even before the regulation was introduced.
yam going to triples, honda going to V's whats left for kawi and zuk to do? it would be cool to see a rotary in a bike again.
Inline-600, 1cc per cylinder. It would rev like nuttin'!

the trouble with tribbles is that they can't be balanced
