Next R6 and R1 to be triples

V4

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
doubt yamaha will put a triple in the r6 ...

why ruin the best selling woman's bike with new innovation..?

if they do, it'll be a new model name...

really? You don't think Hayes would race a 3cyl? I bet you if Yamaha wants him to race 1... he will race 1.

seem to recall Dominguez (4 wins countless podiums) and DiSalvo (5 podiums + a win) being on the box just a few times this year... I guess AMA doesn't qualify as professional racing in your opinion?

i knew someone would call me out on not incl AMA in my thoughts, coulda put $$ on it thatd be u.

as it stands now, AMA is not a true test for a manufacturer's development skills. Yamaha would never develop a new bike hoping to get Hayes on it to win that 'ship; all their effort would go into WSBK/WSS.

but rly, thats just my opinion on that matter (AMA)... im not the one that absurdly wrote that Yamaha would be replacing the R6 & R1.

:laughing:thumbup

true, Duc garnered a ton of US market share using GP exposure without winning anything :D. but there is something to be said for the factories actually doing development in a racing series. they tend to skip out pretty quick (as seen in WSBK) after introducing a new bike, but at least they did something.

I was going to mention that.

Laverda made a version of their 1000cc triple with the two outer pistons 180 degrees out from the center one. Don't know if they included a counter balancer, but probably not.
I don't think that engine lasted too long before they switched back to 120 degree offsets between each of the three pistons.

And let's not forget that MV did very well in GP racing with triples.

because rossi and jorge winning in motogp does far far more for the brand than any wins in wsbk, or even titles

No, the Laverdas did not have counterbalancers but were fairly smooth. They switched back and forth with the crank layouts, both were good engines. The strong point of a triple is that it can be narrower than a four. That will help with top speed.

I don't know if I believe this whole triple Yami thing, yet.

Yami and triples isn't speculation, they announced it, just not a specific bike. The concept display had a bike frame with handlebars which implies FZ but the reasoning works for any of the bikes.

Triple should give you better low down torque than the 4 while revving much more than a twin. And should cost and weigh a bit less than a 4. So all in all seems to make more sense for a street bike.

A triple can work for any type of bike so I can imagine them wanting to standardize on that. It's what I would do (maybe not dirt bike). Like Duc sticks with the twin on everything.

For racing: motogp is different enough anyway, and if Duc can race twins then so can triples.

I'm sorry I love me some AMA racing!

I do agree with you that I don't forsee Yamaha dumping an I4 and replacing it with an I3 especially not in moto racing. Just doesn't make sense. Especially when you are talking about a bike that has 5 yrs of development in it and is a very successful bike on the grid.

You can't say the AMA has no talent in it... even if you remove SBK (all those has beens ;) :laughing)

Rispoli just last weekend raced BSS was it, with Swan Yamaha? Started P25 finished 10th and set fastest lap? No talent there at all :laughing

agreed - and this is the level you develop at. Unfortunately, with the FIM rules the way there are it doesn't make sense for ANY factory to race anything other then a 4cyl.

Due to unit cylinder performance and power-to-weight ratio, all the MotoGP manufacturers opted to use four cylinder engines even before the regulation was introduced.

KHAAAAAN!
Alright...let Yamaha come out with a middleweight triple. And let Honda release a the CBR500R. Are we all happy now?!

Disalvo had a few dnfs this year.I have ridden many triples, the big triumphs are too heavy and the chassis is poop, the smaller triumphs are better, but the r6 is waaay better, why ruin a good bike. For a streetbike or adv bike sure,a triple is fine.
