New Lockdown, Merry Christmas!

The essentially giant indoor tents are hilarious.

Personally I don’t think individual piecemeal shut downs is correct

Nor I. They're wearing people out with this shit and, in my opinion, investing way too much into something that is nearly impossible to stop...people traveling and mingling. It's not going to stop. They'd be better off investing more in increasing the ability to treat more people. That, at least, has a chance.

I wish they would just suggest to those who are afraid of covid death, that THEY stay at home....

I'm totally cool with that as long as those people who do go out are required to stay home if they catch Covid, and not expect a hospital bed. Our healthcare system is about to be overrun and 'personal choice' will now impact everyone. I'd recommend you not crash that motorcycle three weeks from now, or you may not have anyone avaialable to put you back together when our hospital beds are all fun and our healthcare workers are otherwise occupied with Covid patients.

The truth is, if people just followed basic rules about distancing, we wouldn't be in this situation. But most people aren't, hence we have an out of control situation.

They can't just snap their fingers and magically have more ICU beds, nor is that the only problem. There aren't enough healthcare WORKERS to attend to patients. And even if they could throw money at the problem, the money isn't there. Hospitals are already strapped.

People just don't want to accept reality, which is that, unless behavior changes, people are going to die that could have been saved and there will be healthcare systems around the country failing in the next three months, which will cause additional people to die due to injuries and/or conditions that should not have been fatal. Selfishness is going to cause death.

I'm 62 & had the covid back in March, it was a 3 week long flu with alternating symptoms. Never thought I needed medical attention & it ran its course....I still went to work each day....not in an office, I work alone.

This whole thing is being used as a political stunt. Look up regular flu deaths each year for past 5 years & they match the covid deaths of this year.

Great. For you. What about others whose experiences are very different and for whom Covid will either kill or destroy their quality of life? Do you think the current hospitalization numbers and deaths are a hoax?

Did you get the antibody test to confirm??

And.. everyone is different. Age matters but other factors play a big role on how it attacks ya as well.

You are kind of old like me! 62 as well.

At least for money, they could've implemented a special COVID tax on businesses that wanted to stay open, and use the money to build new beds and train people.

Rolls with it...
They will.
I work for a beer distributor and since COVID our numbers are up compared to last year. Bars and restaurants are down of course but people buy more beer at the grocery stores and that more than makes up for it.

You're doing the Lord's work, thank you!

No, I didnt test, but I belong to a church that had a large Chinese delegation visit & soon after, many of us got sick.
My symptoms started out as chills & fever, body aches & weakness, then changed to stuffy nasal & congestion & then dry hacking cough & sore throat.

Ha, We are not our grandpas 60s, I'm in much better shape than I remember him being ;)

Bay Area counties have “opted in” in advance

Effective Sunday.

Yup.
“Rather than waiting until Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed availability reaches critical levels and delaying closures that are inevitable, the Health Officers for the Counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, and Santa Clara as well as the City of Berkeley are jointly announcing that they will implement the State’s Regional Stay Home Order now. ”

There's a much greater chance at making more beds appear than getting selfish people to stop being selfish. I live with a healthcare worker with nearly 30 years of experience, I hear about the shortages on a damn near daily basis. Even she knows that it's not realistic to try to get people to quarantine in the 21st century. It worked 100+ years ago because people probably didn't travel more than 20 miles from their home in their lifetime. Today, people travel that much in a day...or more. Hell, my commute is longer than that. It's unrealistic to expect people to lock down in this era. Times have changed.

I'm 100% okay with masks, social distancing and staying the fuck away from my family during this holiday season. But I'm doing it because I'm not a science denier and understand the implications of suggesting that it's impossible for me to miss out on a single damn year of time with my extended family. In short, it's profoundly stupid to think that way.

I have lived 50 years without a medical plan & always just weathered the storm when illness took place.
We've all heard stories about ER being clogged by people with flu symptoms, things that most of us would just sweat out & let run its course.
The media has blown the covid into a raging deadly pandemic, but most healthy people can overcome at home with
good care.
The medical corporate enterprise loves to suck up insurance dollars & will assign a bed & nurse-doctor to anyone feeling sick, no matter what degree.

When we hear news of increased covid rates, it doesnt mean that people are dying, it means that hospitals are increasing profits.

Think of this, the homeless are the largest population that would be susceptible to covid,
I bet there are none of them in the hospitals as they dont have insurance coverage.
Where are the news stories about the 1000s of dead homeless from covid ?

This is just wildly untrue. The Homeless are filling our Emergency Rooms every day, even when there is no Pandemic. There is no reason to think they would be the most susceptible to COVID since all the studies show that the most dangerous transition period is when you are inside around other people. When you LIVE outside...

Juvenile detention centers and prisons get all the limelight on the news. Free the prisoners. The homeless are already free so they don't need the news coverage ...

You and I don't often agree on much, but I agree 100% with this. :thumbup

A lot of these shutdowns could have been avoided if people would have just behaved better. We could have seen business beginning to thrive again, but instead bad behavior by a portion of the population has made things tougher for all of us.

I hope you and yours stay healthy and get a vaccine in a timely manner!

One of these days we're going to face a virus that's 100% fatal. And based on our human behavior, we are absolutely doomed as a species.
