Need input about "Social Distancing" ride

So, I was thinking about taking a short jaunt tomorrow. I mean, how much more "Social Distance" can you do than riding alone on your bike and wearing a leather HAZMAT suit? But now that the governor has shut down the state and declared that "non essential travel" is verboten, I'm not sure what to do.
I imagine that the cops, with less traffic, will have more time to hang around and observe, and they may not be happy to find me up at The Wall taking in the view.:mad
I understand there is always a risk of a crash but the same restrictions have not been put on bicycle riders.
So, barf people, what say you?:thumbup

I think a bunch of folks are going to come in here and yell at you for being irresponsible and selfish. To be very clear, I am not being passive and calling you such things, or saying you are either. Just what I've seen from folks lately, in regards to things like this.

The question I had for myself was, if I crash, do I really want to be in a hospital right now and/or taking EMS/Fire/Medical personnel away from the current crisis? Imagine if we got to Italy level craziness, hospitals overwhelmed and triaging folks off. I come in from a motorcycle accident and end up in the ICU, I don't want to be on the triage consideration list, or take away a bed from someone else in the midst of this pandemic.

That’s a tough one and I’m having the same struggle so I can’t offer you any thoughts

It's been less than a week. Sit at home and let this blow over.

People need to stop thinking of themselves and think of the greater good. Unfortunately that isn't the American way...

+1,000.

Just had to explain to my wife why a day trip to Half Moon Bay to sit on the beach was a bad idea.

The reason I'm not riding a motorcycle is the reason RightCoastBias articulates above. If there's any issue, I'm in the ER, taking resources away from ill people because I wanted to have fun, and being exposed to the worst cases of flu in their most virulent state. No, thanks.

I'm confused because we are instructed to not take "unnecessary trips", yet state parks remain open. In fact, just this morning I received a text alert that Carnegie OHV park is OPEN! Only difference is you now have to self-pay.

UPATE: I was just in a group work (virtual) meeting and the same subject was mentioned... one person who has previously worked as a mental health counselor. He mentioned that people absolutely need to get out of their homes... just not in close proximity to others. He suggested that this is why state parks are still open. Obviously DON'T go out in you feel sick. But mental health is a real thing and we need to get out, just be responsible.

I started my bike yesterday in the garage since it hasn’t been ridden in 3 weeks. Just let it run for a few minutes, cracked the throttle a few times and turned it off. Sad, but that’s all I can do right now. I too have thought about just taking a quick ride somewhere but this is not the time.

I was having the same thoughts this morning but decided to check BARF first. I agree with the concerns mentioned here and will now repress my jones to ride and be a good citizen instead.

According to the bulletin published by the county of Alameda a few days ago,

10. Definitions and Exemptions.
a. For purposes of this Order, individuals may leave their residence only to perform
any of the following “Essential Activities.” But people at high risk of severe
illness from COVID-19 and people who are sick are urged to stay in their
residence to the extent possible except as necessary to seek medical care

iii. To engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with
Social Distancing Requirements as defined in this Section, such as, by
way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, or running.

So it looks like some outdoor activities are okay as long as you are not sick and practice "social distancing". Since Carnegie is a state park and is still open... I think getting out on a dirtbike is likely okay.

Hollister OHV is also open (camping closed). So if it goes against the order, why wouldn't a California State Park be closed?

Guys this really isn't up for debate.

Stay the fuck indoors. Don't be that guy.

If you need to get out to take a walk do it but around the block.

Treat the virus like you have it.

Whammy says if you wanna ride go ride.
Everyone is an adult and responsible for their actions.
If you do crash you know the consequences. If you get sick well that's on you too.
Practice your social spacing and such.

Me... I'm gonna continue to drive on my simulator and get the most track time in can get.

Like i said in the other thread... I downloaded the whole series of Sanford and Son.
137 episodes. In between all the virtual track time I'm getting i'll binge watch some too.
Forced vacation with consequences... that's how Whammy sees it.
Take advantage of it there is something you can do around the house to improve your living situation.
Have fun, go try to find the end of the internet.

Right, it's just going to blow over and we'll be back to normal soon...this isn't a nor easter. I'm not advocating for activities that are unnecessarily risky or generally being part of the problem, but I think we need to start coming to grips with the bigger reality here. The human and economic devastation from an undetermined period of home confinement is going to be so much uglier than anything C-19 can throw at us.

The word of the week is unprecedented. What is unprecedented is how we're eventually going to need to make some seriously tough choices relative to global economic health and human mortality. In 2008 we were trying hard to bring the economy back to stable ground and that was devastating period of time. We don't really have the same tools to address what is coming our way soon.

You guys are really grinding my gears.

People are allowed to go hiking, bicycle, running, etc., and you're trying to tell me to sit my ass at home? Please read the "order" and educate yourself.
Engaging in "outdoor activities" are considered "essential activities", go ride your fvck'n motorcycles. At gas stops, please refrain from licking your riding buddies in the face.

Lord Jesus help us.
