Didn't see a thread, so I thought I'd start it since it's already Friday and bikes are angrily burning dinofuel on track.

Some Joe Roberts history for anyone not familiar with him. This is just off the top of my head so I may have some of the years out of order or just plain wrong.

He grew up in the Los Angeles area where he did mini bike road racing and then the USGPRU. He qualified for the MotoGP Red Bull rookies Cup where I think he raced in 2011 and 2012 with a podium at Brno and regular finishes in the points. He came back to the U.S. and raced 600 Supersports when he turned 16 winning at least one race. He spent time working on his riding at Kenny Roberts ranch (no relation) and raced a lot of district 37 flat track in Southern California where he often won the A class (top class). He raced AFT (then AMA Pro Flat Track) at Calistoga one year in the Singles class.

He then raced CEV Moto2 in Spain alongside Jayson Uribe, IIRC. Roberts got the chance to do five Moto2 World Championship races where I think he had a best finish of tenth in the rain at Brno. Roberts spent the 2018 season stuck on an underperforming NTS chassis and then struggling to adjust the second tier KTM chassis last season though he did improve late in the season and earn some points finishes.

For 2020, Joe Roberts' American Racing Team has moved to a Kalex chassis, has a new crew chief and has John Hopkins working as rider coach and training partner.

The prospect of American relevance again in GP racing is super exciting!

It sure is... I will say it again.

GO JOE!!! :flag

Be awesome to seem him on the front row. Pole would be mind blowing.

Having Joe being competitive is going to make Moto2 way more interesting.

Premiere class this weekend.!! :party

Thanks for the thread Nick.

He took a decent hit to the back of his helmet. Ouch!

Luckily he didn’t get collected under the bike. Kind of a weird highside.

Yup, who had that great Arai in the eighties? Kevin Schwantz had some great helmets then.

Oh shit! a thread! hahaha. I didnt start one because no motogp, so thanks for starting it up Nick.

Joe Roberts kicking ass! :flag :applause

I really really hope Austin isnt canceled. SXSW was just canceled, so its not looking good for our only round. I wish they'd just come to a deal with Laguna to bring GP back to the peninsula. scramp really shit the bed with that one, huh.

ah well, no motogp, but the tweens will entertain us all the same. lets do this :wackyiraq
