So KTM decided to ditch their trellis frame? (Technically)
Seems like Pedrosa making big impact for them and the direction change. Hopefully KTM have a much better season in 2020 because those bikes do look fast if they can hook up.

I wonder how much their stubbornness of not using ohlins is handicapping them.

The thing mainly handicapping KTM is their frame. You know Pedrosa has told them that over and over. When the new frame is revealed it will be interesting to see the spin, assuming it's more of what we've seen from the testing pics. If they want to win, they'll need to eat the egg off their face and keep working their "trellis" frame. I do believe Ohlins would help, but not as much as the frame.

KTM is the only manufacturer making it interesting. GP is almost a spec series due to tire and engine regulations. At least KTM is trying to do something different with their frame and suspension. I'm glad someone is challenging the idea that an aluminum twin spar frame and Ohlins are the only path.

Didn't Zarco say that he felt that Avintia was not a top tier team? Said he'd only go to a top team. Interesting

Once you've gone Ohlins, you never go back.:laughing

"Thanks for keeping the team afloat for the last few years. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out."

I made that up but its not much better than the way Avintia Ducati management kicked Karel Abraham off the team. Reportedly, Abraham received an email from the team saying the he's out. Abraham is angry that he tested with the team and no one made the effort to tell him in person. A Czech motorsports website has some quotes from Karel Abraham. I'd quote using Google translate but it still doesn't make a lot of sense: https://www.motorkari.cz/motosport/silnicni/motogp/karel-abraham-konci-v-motogp-42948.html This move, of course, paves the way for Zarco to ride ride a powerful bike that doesn't turn well after leaving a team with a powerful bike that doesn't turn well.

edit: Here is a less dramatic version of events from Crash.net: https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/934607/1/abraham-retires-avintia-seat-open-zarco

Karel's primary qualification for MotoGP was a rich dad who bought him a lot of rides. When he had to depend on talent, he was in trouble, and that was years ago. He's fast as fuck to mortals, but in the big leagues he's just a bush league player whose dad bought him entry. He had 2 Moto 2 podiums and one win in 14 years of GP racing.

The whole rich dad thing is way overplayed.

Abraham gets about the same results as Rabat who was a Moto2 Champion and Karel did better than Luthi who has been a consistent Moto2 title threat, which points to the Avintia team and older bikes being part of the problem. Between Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, KTM and Ducati, there are 16 factory bikes on the MotoGP grid and two well supported satellite bikes (Nakagami and Bagnaia). Competing against those efforts on a year old bike and less than stellar team is going to put nearly anyone at the back of the grid.

Luthi has had 65 podiums and 17 wins, against Abraham's two podiums and 1 win. Try again?

Rabat has had 36 podiums and 13 wins.

Karel told us he’s retiring. No money in Moto America and too late for rides in wsbk or bsb.

He might not be the best rider on grid but he has a contract and no one would tell him to his face he’s being bought out, that’s Bush league. At least man up at tell him face to fscec

The whole rich dad thing is impossible to overplay because he never would've been MotoGP had it not been for his daddy's team.

Only thing that will be missed in the paddock is Mrs. Karel Abraham.
