Meme Culture

What a wonderful thread.

And I give the dear readers a quote from Alvin Toffler in his book "Future Shock".

'People don't change, technology changes but people don't'.

Memes are graffiti in the information age. With about the same impact as what was found on the uncovered walls of Pompeii. Passing interest until the next wall comes into view.

In the meantime. . . .grins.

most people that think most people are stupid tend to not be all that smart. that said, it's pretty easy to fall into the trap of discounting the average intelligence of humans if you live in the USA :laughing

it's pretty easy to fall into the trap of discounting the average intelligence of humans if you live in the SF BAY AREA with a bunch of geeks

Edit: by definition, "100" in the "intelligence quotient", IQ, is the average. The average IQ around here is pretty high. On the BARF, I mean.

80/20 rule. 20% of the planet's population does 80% of the work. 20% of those people are actually smart.

ha. My 8020 rule for decades, has been, 80% of all people are mediocre at their tasks, professions what have you. You can divide up the remaining 20 how you want as either highly skilled or fully inept.

My daughter and her friends can have entire text threads of just memes. They all know what they are talking about, most are inside jokes and it doesn't bug me at all. She's an honor roll student, knows how to speak and write clearly, but in this case she chooses not to because it's fun for them. They are also early teens, not 50 y/o kb warriors. ymmv

Exactly! Until two days ago I did not know this culture existed. Fascinating. I certainly understand how the kids could have fun.

I think I will go outside and play now.

I think you are not reading the same tests, studies and statistics I was.

They are pretty much like today's headline news, trying to trigger an emotional response from people with very little effort made to stick to the truth.

So, lame-stream media is lame. Got it. CNN, PMSNBC, Rachel Maddow, Chris Cuomo... :teeth
