Please school me on them. Looking to get a few for the front door and garage area. Prefer something affordable, durable, and easy to use.

I have 2 systems, both I can view remotely on my phone and auto records, when motion is detected.

Arlo, and Yi (like dropcam) I have them setup in the front porch, backyard, garage, and my kid's room.

The Arlo has been pretty good. Great battery life ~ 3 months, but you have to hide them well as someone can just come up and grab them. The beauty of it is that it's completely wireless.

We have the Nest and really like it. They are implementing some new features like facial recognition in the coming version. So that's a privacy risk as is their aware 30 day off prem storage.

Riddle me this.
I've been looking at getting the Skybell. Doorbell + wireless camera that gives you access to view the camera online at any time, with free online storage.

(I have no affiliation with them.)

Its Dethklok!
I have a 4 cam lorex wireless system. Although its "wireless" the cameras need a wired in power supply. The picture is pretty damn clear but they do freeze up every 6 months or so requiring a restart. It was $500.

I have the Arlo. So far I have no complaints and it was recommended to me by someone else who had done the research and liked it.

Motion detection works on IR so you'll have to mount them outside if you want that. It's not an issue in the garage. I have my front door cam behind the window so I don't get motion recording, but I just turn it on if the bell rings to see who's outside.

I've got the Arlo as well, not the new ones, but the older ones. It took over a year for the first set of batteries to run out. I now use Tenergy rechargeable batteries for the cameras.

It's pretty nice, free 7 days of storage.

How often are you guys charging the Arlo cameras? Is it a hassle to replace the batteries everytime (climbing up to the cameras and etc)

Join Nextdoor and check out the videos your neighbors put up. So far, I'm really impressed with the Ring doorbell cams.

Otherwise, the set from Costco that comes with its own DVR looks pretty good. Power and data in one cable, you own the footage, and no network hacking worries.

^^^Think I'm going to give one of their kits a try. Need at least one camera with a narrow field of view, not sure if they have some options.

My rechargeable batteries are fairly new, I've only had them up for 2 weeks and they're only down to 87%. But the cameras are internal and not always looking for motion.

Really depends on usage. It's not always recording -- just when motion is detected. I had one set last 6 months, and one set 3. Usually 3 months seems to be the norm. A package of 12 batteries is 20 bucks, so not too bad. The Arlo is mounted magnetically, so you just grab them. Super easy.

My batteries still show full after 3-4 months. They're the lithium ones from amazon, but not rechargeable. I usually check my cameras from the app 2-3x per week. For a little while I had moved my cameras to check on my dog while he was sick and I was turning them on 10x a day. I've heard the rechargables don't last as long, but you only have to buy one set. There's also the newer pro cameras which I believe have a rechargeable battery built in.

My bad for assuming standard AA/AAA. Tenergy makes good rc batts, I'm sure those are solid.

Lorax wired 8 camera system from Costco. PITA running the wires but super happy with the result and there are no fees for usage. Multiple options to add redundant remote storage to hedge against the thief stealing/destroying the DVR unit
