High school renaming

meh. you can discuss the accomplishments of, say washington, without naming things after him. it actually offers a far more nuanced way of looking at the world anyway

I maintain my position that naming schools and stuff after people is mostly lip service. I dont really believe in venerating people to begin with. people shouldnt be venerated

that being said I dont actually CARE if a school is named after washington, or lincoln, its mostly another thing for people to complain about either way.

Well, the, "Using the universally accessible power of violence to overthrow tyrannical systems and cast off the yolk of imperial colonialism in order to invent a new contemporary model of individual liberty where all humans are not property and to forge a better way of life for all people that will change the face of the entire world High School" is so bloody clumsy and the the letterhead is a nightmare.

So you know, Washington High School is kind of easier, isn't it?

Maybe being taken a bit too far. The local school is named after Robert R Lee (there's a bunch named after him actually), what are your thoughts on that Ernie?

:laughing I love that the #1 they want to change is Feinstein. :laughing

Interesting, .. so it looks like "#1" is simply based on "Chron readers/pollsters"/whateverers--and directly resulted in the Fi-school inclusion in this list.

Super-early reporting by Matier like ~1yr ago didn't even have DiFi mentioned under consideration. Same as ABC of the time.

Then later in Oct. the Chron says, i.e. she's included exactly for her Confederate flag thing-a-majik back in the day.
because she reportedly replaced a vandalized Confederate flag flying outside City Hall when she was mayor in 1984

This means.. believe it or not.. that at least that name change was *exactly* what people wanted. :laughing

...
Why make a thread if you have no opinion on the subject?

Cuz he don't join another ... forum.:x

Hahaha!

E, not r, typo

And no, not in SF

Hmmm...you're onto something there. I bet that change from an "E" to an "R" saves about 75% the cost!

Nope, sorry, Government Union Work. Changing the scope down to a single letter will increase the cost of the project by 30% and extend the duration of work 3-6 months.

just stop naming them after people to begin with. enough with the mythologizing of people already.

people are just mad about this cause they don't like change.

Agreed. To me, there's a big difference between honoring venerated historical figures and hero worship. Why can't we just do shit like NYCDOE does? PS-1, PS-2, PS-3 and so on...

I'd like something in the middle. Not naming schools after people with famous but potentially questionable history.

But I wouldn't want to be trying to remember if it was HS-34 or HS-35 we lost the stick ball game to.

Can we go with the names of fictional people? I'd like to say I'm a proud alum of Tony Stark High.

Maybe band names? I heard Nickelback High have a pretty bitchin basketball team this year.
