Good news, Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson Highs in SF are being renamed to celebrate non racists!

I called it in my other thread in PS. Knew they weren't gonna stop with Lincoln.

Yeah, it's an interesting thing. I certainly see the basis for the objection, but equally see that holding people to the highest standard means that we will be naming high schools after fish.

I sincerely hope this happens. Can't wait for Candiru High School.

Cool, I wasn't sure what menial nonsense to be outraged about today.

Thanks Ernie.

I asked the City Council in Oakland to name something after my "favorite" mayor, Jean Quan. I suggested renaming the animal shelter to the "Jean Quan Dog Pound."

Sadly I got not positive feedback.

Thanks Ernie.

I'm here to serve! :)

These are towering historical figures who lived in different times when different things were accepted practice. I guess it doesn’t matter that they had the guts and fortitude to accomplish what they did in history and bring huge positive change to the world.
Makes me sick . I like the fish name idea though.

Berkeley should ban the owning and driving of Mercedes within city limits as they were anti Semitic.

In March 2020 the Australian Strategic Policy Institute identified 83 companies that directly or indirectly benefit from forced Uyghur workers ( estimated to be 80,000) in China - among them Nike, Apple, Adidas, North Face and Gap.
I wonder if the folks who decided to change these school names where wearing clothing and using iPhones produced by oppressed people as they criticized Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln for being racists?
Those 3 are long since dead, why not focus on people still in bondage around the world?

i don't think fish is likely to be the best naming paradigm but something from the animal kingdom is a safe space to prevent hurting butts.

my major concern with the fish paradigm is that everyone is going to try to call themselves either sharks, dolphins or a ray... and dolphin on dolphin watersports ain't really my bag.... well only a little.

inevitably though someone will name their school after the guy that named himself after a book that has a fish in the name so they can be animal based but also historical

oh also, if animals will the vegans have to homeschool?

If I can be serious for 1 more minute- per The Guardian there are 40.3 million people worldwide who are slaves . That works out to 1 in 200 people. There are more slaves in the world today than in any time in history. 71% are women. Modern slavery is where the focus of outrage should be placed. We can learn from the past but we can’t change it.
Now back to the frivolity...

The carvings of three Confederate leaders Gen. Robert E. Lee, General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and President of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis sits 400 feet above the ground, which is larger than a football field. The memorial overlooks an outdoor recreational park and casts a shadow over Stone Mountain, Georgia, a predominantly black city.

As a kid in the 80s I went there one year for July 4th fireworks. No clue who the heck was on that mountain at the time.
