High school renaming

Isn't San Francisco itself named after a Catholic Monk?

What person in history meets the SF School Board purity test?

Can't be MLK as he was a womanizer, right?

And there are only 33,360 fish species so we'll have to move on to rodents.

KHAAAAAN!
In March 2020 the Australian Strategic Policy Institute identified 83 companies that directly or indirectly benefit from forced Uyghur workers ( estimated to be 80,000) in China - among them Nike, Apple, Adidas, North Face and Gap.
I wonder if the folks who decided to change these school names where wearing clothing and using iPhones produced by oppressed people as they criticized Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln for being racists?
Those 3 are long since dead, why not focus on people still in bondage around the world?

Posted from your iPhone? :laughing

This Hawaiian fish with a long name is pronounced“who moo who moo new coo new coo ah poo ah ah”

The name means “trigger fish with a snout like a pig.“

I did not know that, thanks!

I did have a six inch Humu in my tank when I still had it set up. I accidentally left my finger about an inch into the tank during feeding and the sucker bit me, drawing blood. :shocker

I don't care if they take the names down or if they keep them. :dunno

The only constant in life is change. :dunno

Yeah. I mean, why can't everything be named after rich, white, landowning dudes all the time? Oh wait. It pretty much is. :laughing

Death and taxes as well.

They named one of the buildings at the high school I went to after a long time history teacher when he retired. A couple years later the dude was arrested and it turns out he was a pedo all along.

They tore his name off the school building lightning fast.

It seems that context has little weight in the face of the need to generate outrage.

Sucks for the people who attended those High Schools, years from now they'll be trying to explain to their kids and grandkids about an experience at a school and they'll have no clue what school they were talking about, or worse that they went to a racists school.

My kids already have no clue what the hell I am talking about, I'm sure stories from Kennewick High will be even less relatable. :laughing

I don’t think much has changed considering SF General now has Zuckerberg’s name attached and Children’s Hospital has Benioff’s name on their sign, and Bill Gates was just listed as being the single biggest farmland owner in America, and we know about Larry Ellison’s ownership of Lanai.

Yes, the goal is to eradicate that history and build a new representation of our society that explicitly excludes those folks. And they didn't have to be bad people through action either, because they already are by attribute.

DC has monuments and memorials, and I think slaves helped build the white house, so there's lots to do...
