alvaro has got to go.

that seat is too good for him

Agreed, there are too many guys coming up the ranks to justify that seat for Bautista. He is already a known quantity as a mid packer. Time to give that seat to a new young gun that has unknown potential.

My hope is that gresini can run a Honda production racer, let Alvaro ride that, Abd let a better rider on the rc

I'm surprised Honda with their infinite resources and relationship with Gresini and LCR, aren't offering their production racers at a discount to the satellite teams. I mean LCR wanted to expand to 2 bikes next year but are still trying to secure funding for Bradl's ride. They can just charge full price to the other privateers.

Hadn't seen those articles re: Pol. Thanks for the links.

Good god, I hope Cal doesn't decide to ride for Ducati. Can't he see the wide trail of careers they've laid to waste?

the only real issue is that Cal may not have the option of staying at Yamaha. he may in fact have been told to look around because we cant promise you a spot

Pretty sure one of those doesn't belong. It's a GRAND SLAM for a reason, there are only 4 bases you cover in a GRAND SLAM..? :)

There are five types of events which is ALL the event types just like a (yawn) baseball grand slam is ALL the bases.

With the contraction of $$$ for US racing and no change in sight, I wonder if it would be possible to consider the old Grand National format of competing on dirt AND asphalt. Its all the same manufacturers spending money so why not?

superb retrograde thinking!

the AMA [now AMA Pro] Grand National Championship was, indeed, a dirt + pavement deal - until 30 or so years ago

mebbe it's an idea worth serious consideration !

Its a pipe dream because enough teams and dollars are committed to present format and no one wants to give up their piece of the pie. However, the long term health of the sport could probably benefit from 1) a shake up and 2) concentrating on 12 or 15 really big events rather than the present scenario of a few high profile races in each series strung between several races that barely make it. The big gaps in the road race and flat track schedules last spring are evidence of this problem.

Everything is so specialized today that it probably wouldn't work. Fun to think about, though.

I've said for about two years that I would love to see Hayden on a factory ducati make a run at the wsbk title. Between his motogp title, his AMA road race and his flat track stuff, a wsbk title could put him in the argument for greatest American racer of all time

It's a pipe dream because Supermoto (which would function as a bridge for fans of either road or dirt disciplines) has effectively fallen flat on its face in this country, with no pro series anymore. AMA missed its opportunity to make a big deal of Sumo was it new and exciting. Nowadays no one will spend big money on a series without having TV coverage, marquee riders, and the possibility of going to a world stage as part of the package.

Just because Hayden hasn't won a WSBK title doesn't mean he's not one of the elite from the US.

I think he is referring more towards the records books and for that you need landmark statistics. Decades down the line people tend to be remembered mostly for their titles above all else.

Rossi will go down in history for his titles more than his personality quirks, riding drama, style, or famous battles, or even podiums.
