It is with a very sad heart that I am posting that Glenn Patterson lost his life today. I just met him this morning in Livermore. This has affected not only his parents and family, but also the riders who he was with and rendered aid. The people in the car he hit and his fellow riders on the scene while the paramedics tried to save his life.

This goes much deeper than our community. My sincerest condolences to his parents and friends of course. Their son is gone and a friend to many of us that was just beginning to emerge will not.

We have had thousands of smiles over the tens of thousands of miles over the last 8 years without a serious injury at all more than a bump and a bruise. Today proved we are not immune to the reality of life and I hope all of us give a little more respect to our ride in Glenn's memory.

We are going to gather tomorrow night at 6 to share some moments together. We are an extended moto family and GOP was part of it.

Godspeed young man. :rip

FYI - motorcycles will be welcome to the memorial. I will update this post with the info for Sunday's memorial. We will also add it to group rides. I hope many choose to attend to honor Glenn and his family. I am in awe of their strength and so look forward to meeting them.

I offered to help with expenses, flowers or whatever. Many of you contacted me to ask how we could do that. The family did not accept the offer rather they are going to ask for donations in Glenn's memory be made to barf in Glenn's name to further rider training. I am so honored by that. :wow so humbling and it is because of you guys. The barf family /community.

We will use those funds to supplement the distribution of our new Lane Splitting Tips pamphlet. A few folks got to see it at the rally and Kazman handed out some to riders at the Cycle Gear Sac clearance sale. We intend to distribute hem to any shop that will agree to display and give them away in California. I hope this will help motorcyclist to learn to lane split safer and thus honor Glenn's memory by doing so. This is an amazing family and I do hope you can join me to support them and also Glenn's friends on Sunday.

All are welcome to attend a Brief Graveside service planned for Glenn Patterson Sunday September 25th 10:00am at:

Mt Hope Memorial Park
250 Spring Avenue
Morgan Hill CA 95037

Followed by a Memorial lunch and gathering at 11:00 am

Los Paseos Clubhouse
7047 via Ramada
San Jose, CA 95139

Park at adjacent school and walk over.

Ride to memorial - please join us

Flying Hun, DR SLO and I are planning on riding down and I will post up a meet spot should you wish to join us.

I also first met Glenn this morning. He was a big guy standing off quietly. He hadn't yet met a lot of us. But he was part of our BARF community, doing something he loved.

I've attended a handful of Hawthorne rallies and a few Spring rallies. But this event today is so out of the experience that it shocked all of us. Losing Glenn is so unfortunate. So many rallies with no problems, never even serious injury. This was a bolt put of the blue. This is something you never forget.

:rose. My deepest sympathy to Glenn, his family and friends, my fellow riders, the emergency staff and chp, the driver of the car, neighbors and people stuck in traffic. The ripples go out.

In peace,
B

I met him at Weaverville this year, pretty nice guy. I was looking forward to hanging out with him and the rest of the BARF crew by the pool. Sad to see this.

:rip Glenn.

He was a newer rider and barfer but he came to Weaverville earlier this summer and tried to join us here. Clearly he enjoyed our company and moto life. I can't believe the young man is gone.

Just devastated. This will haunt me for some time. So many thoughts, yet nothing I can do will fix this. My heart aches for Glen, especially his Mother Catrina, the EMTs, the driver of the car, those of us who watched.... helpless to help, and BARF.

Glen was 24, joined us July of this year, had four posts... all announcing his excitement to join group a ride. No drama posts, no arguing, no debating. This was a kid, a young man, who was looking for community. Looking to establish relationships with like minded motofanatics like us.

I've got to head home today. I need to see and be with my son, be with my wife. I deeply appreciate the support that all of you have shown to us who were there. I can't over emphasize that enough. I'm just struggling to process this. It hurts.

Glen, I prayed hard for you, that you'd make it yesterday. Today I pray that God protects your soul. I pray for your Mother, Father, and all those who knew and loved you, as the struggle with your passing.

Godspeed young Glen.

I rode with Glenn to and from Weaverville and hung with him quite a bit. It was great seeing someone catching the Barf and moto infection. Such a sad thing to see a young life leave this realm and go to the next one.
My thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.

I received this text from Glenn's Mom, Katrina while heading home today. I haven't responded yet, but felt I needed to share it with all of you. It would be so cool if we could muster a large BARF contingent to be at Glenn's memorial.

This is Glenn's mom Katrina Patterson I wanted to let you know that your contacting me yesterday and doing all you could to inform me of what was happening is greatly appreciated.

I also wanted to let you know that we are arranging his placement at my hope cemetery for next Sunday we will be having a memorial gathering around 1 o'clock the same day There no obligation to attend just wanted the group to know and I will be more specific as soon as I can if anyone would like the information. I do understand that he was new to the group and therefore not likely well known. Safe travels to you all with appreciation Glenn's mom

Please do find out where this will be. I to think a good showing for the man that shared the passion for two wheels and some time with a few of us would be great. Glad you are home safe Greg.

I was the rider immediately behind Glen and came upon the worst scene anyone of us as riders ever want to see. I am very saddened by what happened. Glen and I exchanged hellos and welcome to the group moments at the Starbucks before we headed out.

What strikes me through all of this though is not just the sadness of the event, but the love and camrederie of barf members for each other. I am a new resident here and finding barf (huge shoutout to SmfcJohn for the pointer) was the best thing that could happen to someone in my situation. Being in a place where you know almost no one can be daunting, but barfers have welcomed me and I know you're all there for me if ever needed as I will return the favour if I ever can. You guys actually remind me of the kindness and open welcome I took for granted in Canada.

Losing a young man like this has been a traumatic and shocking experience for all of us. I'll never forget this weekend. But I'll also never forget the weekend I made 50 new friends.

The accident was reported in the local news -

I'd like to go if I can. Details would be nice. I'd rather not show up on a bike though, if anyone is going in a car that would be willing to give me a lift.

I went back to Jesus Maria on the way home this morning to just sit and process what happened on Friday. Without all the commotion, it's a beautiful, peaceful place. I only got to meet Glenn that morning, but I had fun talking bikes with him and riding with him. I know I didn't get a chance to know him very well, but a memory of him is going to ride around with me forever now.

Rest in peace, Glenn. :rose

I am saddened that such a tragedy occurred that took Glenn's life too soon. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and his friends. I'm really sorry that some riders were confronted with our worst nightmare. thank you for all for your efforts and finding the strength to finish the ride out to Hawthorne. I can only imagine how tough that would have been, and how difficult it will be to process in the coming days and weeks. Please reach out and continue to be a part of our amazing community. Bud, thank you for your words last night.

Friday morning was my first time to meet Glenn.
We talked for a few minutes about the Weaverville rally he had attended earlier this year, about our planned route to Hawthorne, about the coming weekend of BBQs, trike races and the search for hot springs! Glenn was someone I was looking forward to sharing a beer with and reliving the good times spent. By now we should be friends thru our love of 2 wheels.

I can't make sense of Glenns passing, probably never will. Those few hours knowing Glenn will be forever in my memory. I offer my deepest condolences to Glenns parents and loved ones, can't even to begin to imagine their sadness.

Rest in peace Mr. Glenn Patterson.

This makes me incredibly sad to hear. I talked quite a bit with Glenn at the Weaverville rally, and briefly at the Redwood group ride last month. My thoughts go out to his family.

We had the pleasure of meeting Glenn at the Weaverville rally. Our first impressions spoke volumes of this young man's character as both Lisa and I were impressed with his enthusiasm and kind mannerisms. Our prayers and thoughts go out his family and friends during this difficult time.

Steve and I stopped by the firehouse on our way home to express our gratitude for their efforts. They spoke highly of the group, and reported that the other drivers they spoke with who were held up by the accident had said that the group rode responsibly and respectfully (their words). We spoke with two the EMT's who attended Glenn, the chief, and the chaplain. We thanked them all, and asked them to pass on our sympathies to the others impacted by this sad event.

What an awesome thing to do. :applause
I am not surprised as to what the drivers said.

Does not make this any easier, but it sure shows the respect that our rally riders have for the ride and how much we care. Thanks man.

I can't imagine how Glenn's parents are feeling now. My deepest condolences to them.

I met Glenn on our first gas stop at Mokelumne Hill as I arrived in Livmo when most people were leaving and already suited up. We spoke for only a minute or so as I was making the rounds to meet the other riders. He seemed like a nice young man. Only 24 years old..............go hug the ones you love tonight
