first crash yesterday on 9 and now Bikey needs help!

I made the turn too wide and i guess I target fixated so I got a bit numb and decided that it would be better to crash at lower speed than trying to lean out of the way :wtf!?! I was afraid that I might skid so I chose to eat the dirty instead. I had this 5 sec (not sure if it was really that long - felt like forever) of choosing so the crash didn't really take me by surprise. I had enough time to slow down a lot and I think I hit the mountain with my back.

I'm fine, no bruise even. My suit didn't even get scratched up. But bikey got hurt. All the right hand side parts are broken: fairing, blinker, mirror...etc. I had a friend came by to check on the bike and luckily there is no damage to the engine.
All the black plastic part under the headlight that serves to hold the fairing and headlight together in place broke. It looks like the headlight is ok, but if I go on a freeway, wind and vibration may crack it open and it may break into my front wheel or something.

I'm looking for help to fix up my boy. I don't care about the fairing. I kinda like to have a naked bike so I think he's ok without clothes for now. I just want to fix up the mirror, blinker and the headlight so the bike is at least reliable to run again.
It's a suzuki gs500f, 04 model. If anyone know where/how to get the parts cheap, please let me know.

also think it was a tremedous help that i was on a gs500 rather than a bigger bike with full gear.
Thanks!

PS. Below is a little demonstration of what had happened and the result of it. :rolleyes
PSS. This is NOT MsPaint. This was drawn by using AutoCad2007 :nerd!!!

yep, group ride.
I did go a bit faster than before. I did fine the whole day so I guess I gained a bit confident too fast :D

It's inconceivable!
Group ride?

It was hours after the group ride ended. We were on our way down the front side of Hwy. 9 to get dinner. There were five of us. Yana was ahead on her own. I was following Mortifer, and Anh and Russell were further back at a much slower pace.

Bummer, glad you are okay.

Just remember, if you cant slow down, lean and pray.

on a odd note,

Kind of weird knowing about these crashes, especially people i've met. Its like, when the internet gets real...it gets really real.

good luck!

I asked a simple question as well :teeth no offense intended. I am not implying that you blamed anyone

Well you put the thumbs down thingy in your message and it caused my inner child (who is NOT medicated today) to suffer trauma.

I need a hug now.

Hey Ya,

I'm sorry that you got to meet the mountain side and congrats on not getting hurt bad, sucks about your bike......1 vote to keep him naked for a bit:thumbup

I know it’s not too fun but Craigslist has always been good when I needed parts for my ZX9 just follow everyones advice about it.

I think the key is to not get in a hurry….wait and let the right parts come to you at the right price, bikebandit.com has also been good to me and there is always parts finder.

My :2cents....not that you asked......if you don’t already..... go do track days! There are hardly ever mountains there and you can always pull off when you want.

Oh and super nice job on the demonstration graphics! Me likes!:teeth

Wow there are so many plot holes in your story I don't know where to begin. Start reading the crash analysis forum and you might see that you panicked, froze up and crashed when you didn't have to.

Glad you lived to tell about it and I hope your skillset improves with time and experience.

So how much do you want for the bike? :laughing j/k :twofinger

lolz...this is newbie's mistake.
I've just started riding 4-5 months ago and I've not been on the twisty that much. Now don't drag me to the track YET!!!
I'm not sure I'm selling the bike because I still love him and think he runs just fine.

Well that's a very good sign, that you are still enthusiastic about riding and don't want to give up. A trackday down the road (say in 4-6 months or a few thousand miles experience) will help you learn how to stay calm & make mid-turn corrections so next time you won't go wide. Instead of panicking you can just turn the bike harder, come out ok and have a good story to tell your friends at lunch time. :)

yeah, I didn't trust my ability enough to think that I could turn and lean more to make my way out. So I chose to use those last seconds to slow down and bite the dirty instead.
