I’ve seen the CZ75 and thought it was a decent looking rig, but honestly CZ hasn’t been on my radar. So I went and looked up that P10F and you’re right it is much better looking than a G17. I’m looking around on their site and see this one called Shadow 2...and I really like the way that one looks. But wow are they sure proud of that thing!
Edit: welp can cross that off the list. P10 and Shadow models not on the CA roster. Sigh.
Again, just my opinion: the Shadow 2 is the finest handgun you can buy for the money. It’s higher than some, but worth every penny.
The CZ75 is a very good gun. That is the gun that got me started in competition.
I’ve put many tens of thousands of rounds through one.
Not sure if the availability in CA.
If you want a gun for defense in the home, don't get a handgun, get a shotgun or rifle.
So a little deeper dive into this gave me that the only “shadow” model you can get here is the CZ75 SP-01. Looks like the frame is fattened up under the barrel to allow a rail, and to add weight I’m sure which helps muzzle flip I imagine. Supposedly a super popular gun for competitive events.
I’m liking this a lot. The SP-01 is actually very reasonably priced too. Picked this picture off the google since I plan to add the light as well and I have that exact knife. So this is going on my short list. Thanks for getting me to take another look at CZ.
The Shadow 2 is not on the CA roster. They are all very expensive, and I guess they are factory hot rodded Shadows or something.
Additionally, not to ring this out, but the heavy from end and general weight of an SP01 is going to soften recoil A LOT compared to a Glock. Glocks have a little snappiness to them and really can be difficult to shoot for relative newbs.
So it’s actually better for weaker hands like some of smaller stature and many females.
Those are awesome cats. Abyssinians?
Have you considered the HK USP45? It should fit your hands rather well.
I figured that extra weight was to help that. And since it’s such a popular gun, like you said there’ll be lots of parts to make it even better. So far the list is something like this:
Sig P226 Mk25
CZ 75 SP-01
Beretta some version of the 92
Once this social distancing fiasco is over, we can meet at Reed's if you want to give your list a "try it before you buy it" run :troy
I also saw the FN FiveseveN was on the roster. Always liked the look of that one, though it’s biggest selling point isn’t allowed here, so the CA version only has half the mag capacity. And not sure if that’s the best for home defense with that high velocity small caliber. Still would be a great, albeit expensive, paper puncher.
Glad to know that JHP is still legal. If that fancy frangible ammo is a no go, it’s good to know that hollow points are still on the table. Once I decide on a particular pistol, then I’ll figure out what particular ammo works for it, weight and whatever.
Since I live only a few miles from Reeds, that will probably be where I buy the thing and be my regular range.
OP:
IMO, you should purchase a Glock 19/17.
It's the best all around pistol made, all things considered.
Or, a similar gun such as a CZ P-10C (or F).
Buy a nice 1911 or beretta later as a nice range gun.
Just my opinion.
Worries about over penetration and then asks about a 5.7....:laughing
Close....but for Rob....the SP-01.
