Don't have a place, but have been wanting to visit Jax At The Tracks in Truckee. Maybe AI can comment, but it looks like a neat spot.

You order plastic cheese on your food?? I kinda like it too, but I hate myself when I eat it.

I eat it as it's delivered :)

In San Francisco my absolute fav is "It's Tops!" diner. Been open for like 80 years. Seriously hearty.

Whatever that means
I generally don't eat at any place where the menu contains pictures of the food choices.

I really wish more places had pictures of the food on the menus. What's wrong with wanting to see a glimpse of what you wanna eat. Do you watch movies without watching the trailers?

Lots of high quality asian restaurants do this. If I open a menu without pics, especially one that has many choices, the next logical thing I do is search Yelp to see what looks good.

I should have been more specific and said that applied to diners. For me diners are about breakfast and I usually ship it or have something light. Times when I meet people for breakfast they want to go to something like Dennys, IHop, or Mels. Those places are artery cloggers where I never go on my own and they have menus with pictures, if I'm remembering correctly.

If its not fried food it doesn't apply. I've also been to Asian restaurants where photos helped with ordering.

Patti’s Thunder Cafe Quincy.
Drakes in Lawrence Kansas, the epitome of a greasy spoon!
Coyote Cafe just south of Downieville has meat and eggs for $7, that’s a diner.

The Sardine Can (awful name) in Vallejo is a favorite of mine.
Perhaps it doesn't hurt that it's less than 5 minutes from my house.
Right on the water on the Napa River the view is pleasant, the people friendly and the food is consistently good.
Not sure if it qualifies as a diner* but it's small and family owned.
Fantastic breakfast/lunch place. Never been there for a dinner.
