What about REACH?

What about Reno-Fernley?

Good questions. I was transported by Reach/Mediplane in Nov of 05 after crashing hard at Berryessa. They didn't give me a choice, loaded me on a ground ambulance to take me to the LZ where the Reach helicopter took me to Santa Rosa Memorial Trauma Center. Was in ICU for 5 days to control an internal bleed, had multiple fractures: 3 vertebrae, knee, shoulder, pelvis and tears: ACL + 3 ligaments, hamstring detached and dislocated shoulder. I have Blue Cross PPO insurance that costs me $890 a month and they still charged me $600 for the little ambulance ride to the helicopter and $2,000 (20%) for the helicopter ride. I had to pay these fees out of pocket, insurance paid the rest. Having the air ambulance insurance would have saved me at least 2 grand.

I looked on the Reach website and they have recipocal with Enloe flight service (another one?) no others.

Reach covers the Berryessa region, so watch out when you get flight insurance, make sure your coverage has recipocal services throughout the common riding areas and race tracks. It is cheap insurance but no good if you have life flight that doesn't have recipocal agreements that cover the areas you ride.

If I ever ride again, I'll make sure to get the insurance, its cheap and well worth it.

I originally posted this on NBSR but thought it would be useful here too.

I would like to provide to you Enloe Medical Center's Flightcare Program, which allows you to sign up for helicopter life lift services for $25/year. This program is not only for the track, but is dependent on the coverage area.

Here is the link to the .pdf: Flightcare Membership Sign-up Sheet.
Sign up for the group rate and enter "Thunderhill" or "K@TT" for the group name.

Here is the link to their website: Enloe Website.

Think about it, $25 (or $35 for the family plan) is well worth the sacrifice in case something happens where a helicopter lift is the only means of getting you to a hospital...it will save you thousands of dollars!

Enloe has an agreement with Calstar where if you sign up for Enloe only, you will get Calstar's coverage as well. Calstar covers tracks like Sears, BW, Willow Springs. I have confirmed this via telephone call.

So, is the one to sign up for Calstar or Enloe?

Enloe = calstar + reach

Calstar doesn't seem to have reach?

So maybe CALSTAR 7 out of Santa Maria can cover Buttonwillow? But what about Willow Springs, Cal Speedway and Las Vegas?

And Miller?

Does Calstar cover T-Hill? Can't tell. I have Calstar but I have a lot of dates at T-Hill and would prolly sign up again for whichever provider covers T-Hill. I have Kaiser which should cover all expenses but I've had some difficulties with Kaiser (like them trying to put a claim in against my mc insurance for medical costs) so being over-insured is a good thing if you have Kaiser.

Does the Insurance cover services from both companies? If i sign up for the calstar insurance, and reach shows up, do i still get the big bill?

Enloe covers T-Hill from Chico. I just got my card from Enloe for this year. Heres the list of providers with an agreement with Enloe

Care Flight, Reno NV
Air Life, Bend OR
Life FLight Portland, OR
Air St Lukes Boise ID
St Alphonsus Life Flight Bosie, ID
St Alphonsus Life Flight Twin Falls ID
Portneuf Life Flight Pocatello, ID
Life Flight Casper, WY
Cal Star Auburn, CA

Just checked Cal-Stars website. In the FAQs they list almost the same providers. It seems that neither Enloe or Cal-Star have an agreement with Reach. So I would guess that if Reach shows up your stuck with the bill.

Who covers Buttonwillow for sure? I really can't tell from either of the maps...

Having worked a number of AFM events at THill over the last 6 years the only helicopter I've seem show up is Enloe from Chico. But keep in mind that if Enloe is busy Reach has a bird in Yuba City and it could cover.
