Does Lorenzo Have A Career Left?

I can't imagine how large or small a fanbase is really matters to the racers. These guys are internally motivated to compete and win like few people on earth. External factors like shirt sales and fan clubs are probably a distraction from the job; a necessary distraction but still a distraction.

From the transcript it was a good surprisingly humble good bye. Helps that I was almost sympathetic this year. Not an easy decision even with the pain.

I'm saying he would have had more motivation to keep on racing if he had more fans.

The dude had an incredible talent for consistency on limit. Once he was at the front, it was pretty much over and folks were fighting for second.

I question the idea that he doesnt have a ton of fans. I agree hes not Rossi or MM level. but I could see him anywhere from #3-#7 on a list of most popular riders, internationally of course.

Yep. And watch out for a good chunk (like all?) of the fans in attendance at Valencia giving him a SO at the end of the race.

Rolls with it...
Granted, Rossi has the charisma to work a crowd, but JLo is no slouch with his, albeit somewhat contrived, celebrations. His fans seemed to like it and he wasn’t anywhere near the Stoner level of acting like he was going to a colonoscopy every time he was in a race. There’s a reason Stoner is pretty much ignored by just about everyone outside of Oz.

(JLo’s video of how rich and famous he was at the height of the economic troubles in Spain was a tad tone deaf, but certainly not unforgivable.)

Valencia will be a bat-shit place if we have to send-off Jorge and celebrate some crazy unexpected victory. if MM wins again, we at least get to be celebrate Jorge's career (not that hes leaving GP).

whoa whoa whoa

jlo was the only person ever to steal a few ships from rossi multiple times on equal machinery

lets not forget he was the goat killer before boat hit the scene...........

Still, he can’t shake that he’s a thin slice of meat between two slices of GOAT bread....

(What’s that makes Stoner, a condiment?)

Besides, didn’t Nicky actually end Rossi’s longest run?

ZOOG FOREVER!!!! :laughing

Watched the press conference. Jorge was surprisingly humble. He admitted he is a perfectionist and that has caused him trouble when dealing with a machine that won't do what he needs it to do. Said that the crash that broke his back was the turning point. I wish him well.
Stoner, Pedrosa, now Lorenzo....and Rossi just keeps going like the Energizer Bunny.

Not as fast as I look.
In another thread, I said Lorenzo should probably quit because of the injuries. I think his id (animal instincts) are telling him to quit before he cripples himself. Money is nice, but it can't fix everything.
Quoting myself since it matches what Jorge said. He's wouldn't be fast enough to be a good tester, right now. I seriously doubt we will see him again in professional racing.

My guess is that you haven't done much racing. :dunno

Lorenzo was a bad-ass. He went wheel to wheel with the best ever and won. Even Carmelo Ezpeleta said he raced against the best and beat them. If he had stayed with Yamaha, he might have another MotoGP championship. I don't know, but the competition for Marquez would have been much tougher. He could disappear like almost no other.

Who shall be Jorge's Repsol successor?

Who would you like to see on the second Repsol Honda?
1. Zarco
2. Crutchlow
3. Oh NO! (Jack Miller)
4. Alex Marquez
5. Some other Moto GP rider?
6. An accomplished Moto 2 rider
7. A Moto-American
8. Haga (Nori-san)

I wonder...

If Honda - or pops - would allow it? :x I too would love to see that though.:thumbup I believe the poster above is semi-correct, that Zarco is the best man for the job right now in the current Moto GP stock. Damn! Where's Super Sic when we REALLY need him?!?!

HAGA? You'd have better luck digging up Gobert if your looking that far back. Give Zarco the ride.

I was being sarcastic. In text. Bad Mikey! Could have been worse: I could have suggested Scott "Purple braids and neck tattoos make me look really fast" Redding. Peace, Love and Norifume Abe!

Even though its trading Lorenzo for L'orenzarco, the french man would be the least boring option for the HRC seat.

so sad for George -
his too-long-delayed success on the Duck finally turned me into a fan (as opposed to 1 who appreciated but didn’t like him)

I’m totally in for Zarco!! (on the Honda, whether LCR or factory)

finally, “Forever ZOOG”!!
