Corona Virus a scam?

Merely Rhetorical
Saw this meme getting a lot of likes on FB where the group's concesus seems to be that Corona virus is a mutation of H1N1 created by the Red Chinese. Supposedly all the facts for this were published by the CDC

Gnaw, the latest is it was naturally occurring, was isolated in a Wuhan lab for study, then accidentally leaked by a lab worker due to sloppy protocols. The Wuhan wet market apparently didn't have the necessary animals to be the source.

Several thousand cars flooded the streets around the state capitol in Lansing, Mich. Wednesday to protest the Governor's extended Stay-At-Home order. Cars stretched nearly a quarter mile for blocks around the capitol building, filling the air with a cacophony of honking. People draped in American and "Don't Tread on Me" flags blared "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "God Bless The USA" out of car stereos.

...

At least 200 people broke the instructions of organizers, getting out of their cars to congregate around the steps of the capitol building, flouting social-distancing guidelines to remain 6-feet apart, and not wearing masks.

Florida's death's per million residents is lower than our national average and only slightly higher than California. Florida is not remotely an epicenter for this virus.

And my point wasn't State to State, it was comparing a county with a large, dense metropolitan area to a rural, largely farming community. The rate of transmission in those two areas will be very different.

Dade County is clearly a hot spot.

Dade County 106 deaths per 500,000 people.

San Francisco County, 9.5 per 500,000 people.

He hears it but doesn't get effected by it, I don't think we will be getting outta this till June, this is going to devastate the economy,

No really, this is going to change our lives for next 10 years+

The roads are more populated already. I suspect many people are going back to work/ life May 1st no matter the orders. They'll just wear their masks, etc.

But they have a moron Trump Drone as a Governor so their rates per capita on case and death counts is almost double that here in California.

Seems like this it the thing now: call people morons. We should just allow it here, so many people think the word has intrinsic value in a post. It's a shame...

SARS-CoV-2 has been the downfall of >125k in the last month, which is 25% of what H1N1 managed in 12 months. Also, just to be nitpicky, the 500K is at the top end of the global estimate, 151,700-575,400. We already know that SARS-CoV-2 deaths are being under reported. H1N1 was a big deal. More importantly it was easy to make a vaccine to H1N1 because the manufacturing infrastructure was in place and safety tests were straightforward. Also, there are drugs to treat influenza. It shocks me that SARS-CoV-2 is still being compared to "flu". At least it's now being compared to severe pandemic flu :laughing

Covid-19 deaths in this country may be over estimated, given Snaggy's info, as I interpret what he was retelling us.

That was a quote from my friend who has lived in Florida since the late 70s and sees his Governor's antics on a daily basis.

Unlike Newsom, who was ahead of the curve, that Governor is STILL behind the curve.

Latest was deeming the WWE the other day an essential business.

But maybe he's not "a stupid person."

It's very unlikely that the COVID-19 deaths are being overestimated here in the US. An article from the UK outlines why this is the case. Yes, it's based on UK cases but the same has been reported worldwide, including China. It would be strange if the US contradicted these findings considering the extreme lack of testing capability in the US. The actual numbers of people who perish due to COVID-19 will never be known but the current numbers are almost certainly underreported.

I think that Berto is doing the numbers game.

How many of these people would have died of a lessor illness like the common cold or flu anyways?

That is undoubtedly going to be part of the conversation when one group wants to make the case that we over-reacted.

IMHO, it's not an invalid argument, but everybody needs to be on the same page when talking numbers as to what the numbers actually represent.

We've all seen politicians and propagandists throw out numbers that represent one thing and represent them otherwise.

Thanks Brett. I was more referencing the comment on what gets put on a death certificate. Not that it makes a terrible difference...dead is dead. That is until a political case is made based on that number.

The instruction to use "Covid-19" as cause of death for cases that are even suspected of having Covid is bit overzealous, IMO, if that is true.

You are welcome to read through the CDC guidance on how to ICD10 code covid

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/icd/COVID-19-guidelines-final.pdf

this is what lands on a DC

the key statements

"as due to COVID-19" and

Presumptive positive COVID-19 test results should be coded as confirmed. A presumptive positive test result means an individual has tested positive for the virus at a local or state level, but it has not yet been confirmed by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CDC confirmation of local and state tests for COVID-19 is no longer required.
If the provider documents "suspected," "possible," "probable," or “inconclusive” COVID19, do not assign code U07.1. Assign a code(s) explaining the reason for encounter (such as fever) or Z20.828, Contact with and (suspected) exposure to other viral communicable diseases.

not many pathologist will risk their career to code wrong.

As I said earlier, I'm trusting a post from someone earlier on how things were being categorized.

so if a person has a under lying condition that will ultimately kill them but gets covid19 that hastens their demise does that mean they weren't really a covid19 death?

Have we figured out if this is a scam yet?? :p

If so. I got scammed.

Yes you got scammed, don't feel bad most everybody did.

For those of you still able to critically think and question things, this is very much worth a read:

"So the War on Populism is finally over. Go ahead, take a wild guess who won.

I’ll give you a hint. It wasn’t the Russians, or the white supremacists, or the gilets jaunes, or Jeremy Corbyn’s Nazi Death Cult, or the misogynist Bernie Bros, or the MAGA-hat terrorists, or any of the other real or fictional “populist” forces that global capitalism has been waging war on for the last four years.

What? You weren’t aware that global capitalism was fighting a War on Populism? That’s OK, most other folks weren’t. It wasn’t officially announced or anything. It was launched in the summer of 2016, just as the War on Terror was ending, as a sequel to the War on Terror, or a variation on the War on Terror, or continuation of the War on Terror, or … whatever, it doesn’t really matter anymore, because now we’re fighting the War on Death, or the War on Minor Cold-like Symptoms, depending on your age and general state of health."

That's going to be the argument over the next several years as each side of the argument tries to put their spin on the numbers.

One side will try to minimize the numbers and will ignore the impact to the numbers due to SIP, the other side will try to maximize the numbers and will use the projections as 'real numbers' for what would have happened. As always, the truth and facts will be somewhere in the middle.
