Compound Bow hunters Archery Shooters, I need a new sight

Smile & Wave for me!
So my 8 year old sight decided to fall apart when shooting yesterday. I need a new one, trying to keep it under $200. Suggestions? I'm leaning towards the Black Gold Widow Maker or the Spot Hogg Grinder. I need micro adjustments and at least 4 pins.

Tell me what you shoot or recommend please

I am in the process of joining an Archery Club, but I am more interested in recurve. Good luck!

Why, are you competing?

Because everything I have heard about compound bows suggest they will be all bushwhacked if I fall out of a tree with one. Recurve seems to have easy take down, low maintenance, and an accessible entry point. This is a brand new hobby for me, so I am making a lot of assumptions.

Archery is a whole new game for me.

Compounds are more ethical to hunt with, more power. I now shoot at 49 lbs which is almost the lowest to ethically hunt. And I won't be shooting over 40 yards. Recurves are bulky strapped to your back but are for competition. You'll get addicted quick lol just don't forget to relax your shoulder, bows are a harsh task master lol I forgot once this year and only once

And Don't fall out of trees, they have straps lol

Yeah, if I am worried about ethics, I will just use my long guns to hunt. This is more about survival stuff to me. I reckon a 60lb recurve bow with broadheads will do most game up a treat though.

HHA single pin?
No, seconds matter when hunting and I don't want to have to change my pin when I get on a deer

Not to derail from the topic, but... I don't agree.

I own and shoot traditional recurve, olympic recurve, as well as compound.

The compound is definitely the best 'scoring' bow for me on any given target. It's easier to score well.. and do it more consistently.... but it isn't necessarily more fun. It's a very mechanical sort of process.

The most satisfying for me? My Dad's old Shakespear Necedah recurve. It's definitely my 'zen' bow, if I could call it something like that, and the one I'd take with me if I could only have one bow for the rest of my life.

Funny enough, the nice Olympic ILF setup probably gets the least amount of usage from me right now.

Eldritch - go and drop $100 on something like a Samick Sage. Get some nice matching arrows, and just enjoy the PROCESS of learning to shoot. Technique is way better to learn on a recurve than a compound... and that's what really matters long term.

Spott Hogg Hogg-it Hunter is what I use. Simple and has all the features you are looking for. But like anything else there are a lot of nice options out there by a lot of companies. Just head to your local archery shop and take a look at what they got. Lancaster Archery Supply has nearly all the sights available in their online store, you can browse there too.

What style hunting are you doing? Stand/blind? Spot and stalk? Deer? Bear? Elk?

Not that it makes much of a difference with your sight I’m just curious.

I shoot an old hand me down PSE with a TruGlo 5 pin sight. Too bad finding deer in CA general zones is so tough I’ve yet to bag one.

Thank you but I was hoping to keep it under 200 and the hunter is 250 which is why I included the Grinder for 170. Looking at the differences they both have the micro adjust. are you aware of any major differences that the descriptions don't state?

Blind and stalk, deer, turkey and boar. And I agree, hunting in CA sucks! They put public land behind private and of course they lock the gates so you have to walk miles around just to get to the hunting spots. Then they place reserved land around the areas so you have to have GPS to be sure you don't cross. It is a mess! I hate hunting here and have yet to get a deer. I go with family in Arizona but now the out of state tags are so outrageous I can't do that any longer. Looking to buy land in Show low just so I claim residency. :laughing
Bro, Fishing? LOL archery is rad. I would like to get into it someday.
You have to have a separate bow and setup to do fishing with it. I want one but dang it is expensive to buy bows.

Y u no English longbow?

Once I get a better hand at the craft, if I like it enough to stick with it, I intend to try longbow out more and do some field bowcrafting, making string seems like a nightmare, but I figured recurve was a good starting point for me to explore.

Yeah, I mean, I have trained some with damn near everything else, from balisong to boarspears. I never fucked around with bows, because i started with firearms when I was 5 years old (thanks dad), and didn't see much point.

I recently discovered there is an archery range literally within walking distance of my house, so figured why not teach an old dog a new trick?
