Thanks Bud. I got mom a new bed a few months ago, made her a delicious meal and left the fridge fully stocked for the two weeks or so I'll be gone.

i pulled a christmas prank on my friend Allen and his wife.

Allen has a 2 year old daughter whom i love dearly. Allens wife is amazing.

For xmas, i bought their daughter an 11 (yes eleven) foot tall, 40lb teddy bear.
They live in a small/cozy but beautiful house in sacramento.

It arrived vacummed sealed (like a foam mattress) in a bag about 2square feet. They had no idea what to expect.

They opened it xmas morning, and once the vacuum bag is ruptured, the bear expanded into their living room.

I quickly got a phone call exclaiming and questioning,

"what are we supposed to do with this? Where are we supposed to put it??"

hahahahahhahahahah. its sent a ripple of hilarity through our friend groups.

Kelly completely surprised the shit out of me this Christmas. There was an amp I'd been eyeballing for quite some time now, waiting for the moment I could afford to buy it myself. They had a huge after-Thanksgiving sale when almost everything was on sale and after one day, I saw the amp I wanted was off the availability list. I was crushed but eventually moved on and started watching the store's inventory hoping they'd get another one in. Fast forward to the end of December and Kelly surprises me with the amp. Definitely the best gift I've received in years... :love

Gave my youngest (10) daughter a 50CC minibike. The kid is stoked and has been riding it around the property nonstop. Her first time on motorized 2 wheels. I'll have a riding buddy for years to come.

I got a 100 year old dough bowl for making teh sourdough.

That is hilarious.

Always wondered what to put on top of my subwoofer to make it look less imposing in the TV room.

Found this at Swede's Feeds here in Santa Rosa; if you are ever rolling route 12 between Santa Rosa and Sonoma stop in as they have tons of cool stuff.

Couldn't figure out how to wrap it so stuffed it in a pillow case to the amusement of all on the Zoom Christmas event.

Best "Give": Gave my friend a loaf of home-made sourdough straight from the oven and delivered to her door.

Best "Got": My mom got her first dose of Covid vaccine.

My best give/get is the same because it was for me. I wanted a creative outlet so I ordered a new guitar and all the fixings. I was going to go with a 40W Marshall amp but instead went with the Positive Grid Spark amp. The guitar is the brand new Epiphone Prophecy SG. They’re still in back order though so I haven’t opened any of it.

My guitar should be here hopefully within 2 weeks.

I brought my Keystone K-109 8mm movie projector (made in 1950) over to my adult kids house to show movies my Dad took from 1958-1962 while we were in Japan. It was a total hit with my kids (32, 31 and 29) and my grandkids (3 & 6). This just whetted their appetite, they want MORE. I have a huge box of movies to go through, we just showed a few.

They want to see the movie cameras that took these (I have both) so I will bring those and describe how it was done.

It was GREAT fun for all.

get it while it's easy
we don’t do big christmas. one gift each (family all draws a name) - with a fairly low spend limit.

this year i asked for food (my usual in any gift giving situation). our family knows this is my standard response to ‘what’s on your list?’, and always comes up with some really cool specialty stuff. this year got bagels + the works shipped from an awesome shop in new york. absolutely divine!

Glad you like it.

My best was a certificate from this guy (Bikewanker) to ride together whenever I want. Mom bought me a chainsaw. I bought this for me.

Bud, those freshly meals are pretty damn good.

Whenever you want? Did you read the disclaimer in small print?:ride

now that's a bargain.Maybe somehow combine it with that film stuff and you have a gift that keeps giving.

My Dad, always interested in photography, made it a point to record all of our adventures in Japan. Not known much in the West, Japan's burgeoning camera industry in 1958 was like being a kid in a candy store.

He took movies or 35mm slides of almost everything we did. I have almost all of the treasures of those times in safe storage. I have resisted converting these to electronic media because I think the methods are very much a part of experiencing the history.

Also, my kids (and grandkids) are seeing and enjoying how we grew up in Japan. It is a refreshing re-visit for me as well.

It's all good!

Two weeks for an SG? Are they that hard to come by these days? :dunno

Sucks to hear that the Spark amps are on backorder again. Good choice, though. However, there truly is no substitute for cranked tubes. I have the Spark and it's a great amp, but I still need to run up my tube amp to scratch that itch. :laughing
