Thank you so much for those who donated! You guys are the most amazing group of people. Thank you for rising to the occasion every single time. Your generosity has saved the life of this dear boy.

Yesterday was puppy Hugo's first day of freedom. He is the biggest sweetheart; like any good puppy he is a wiggly, playful, kissey, happy guy! He ran with the big boys, rolled in the grass, chewed on some chew toys, and was allowed to be a dog for the first time in a long time.

He's resting easy now... But the real work is about to begin. We are just starting to make a dent in our goal.

Hugo does not seem to be in pain and can hopefully live a full happy life if we could just get him diagnosed and treated! Please visit www.heartsforpawsrescue.com/donate for our Baby Hugo!!!

In addition to dogs on our adoption site we have on our radar some potential dogs for adoption.
This includes an 11 month old border collie
a white shepherd
and a few smaller dogs perfect for your parents or grandparents to love on!

If you are looking for a particular type , temperament or breed of dog, please let us know as we are affiliated with a number of bay area shelters.

Happy new year to all!!

Female Rottweiler? :)

And of course, donated!

Can't thank you enough, jayescee! This was one of those days when I got a little weary of the effort and there you were! Donations like that bolster my faith that the world has great goodness in it!
For the dogs! And the kittehs!

As to female Rottweiler. Good story. We had a hold (pending kennel cough treatment quarantine) on a gorgeous sweet female Rottie named Daisy Mae in martinez but were scrambling over a lack of known adopters and were just about to delve into our old list of Hans adopters when a rescue from LA called King of Hearts asked if we'd release to them. so yesterday we gave them all the info and I THINK Daisy is on her way south today.
But I promise you the next Female Rottie that is on my radar will get you an instant PM from me. TWO Female Rotties ,hopefully saved in the future , and hopefully two good storybook endings!! Rescuing when you know you have an adopter waiting is so much easier too!

:thumbup It's more for my girlfriend's uncle who has been looking for a Rott ever since he lost his male and female Rott from cancer. He has a male Pit bull right now but his heart belongs with a purebred female Rott as of now :)

Pupdates -- Hugo and GS Sarge

Thank you so much for the continued outpouring of love and donations to puppy Hugo and all of the Hearts For Paws dogs!!

Hugo's collective funds are being placed in a Trust overseen by our Board of Directors. After his MRI results, the Board, composed of top UCD Vets and Behaviorists, will decide what next steps of treatment to take. If there are leftover funds after treatment, the trust will remain under the Board's control, available to Hugo's future family if further treatments down the line might be needed.

Check out Hugo puppy, he's getting stronger everyday. Watching this guy run and play, will just absolutely make any bad day better.

Last week I was visiting the shelter (just to take a peek I swear!) when I ran into a Veteran looking for a service dog. Daniel had been looking at Shepherd mixes for a few months now. We just happened to be looking at the same dog, and I invited him to come out and assess the dog with me.

We looked at two beautiful shepherd mixes, but Daniel's criteria for a service dog are a little more stringent than what most adopters are looking for. A noise test (throwing a metal pipe right near the dog : | seeing if the dog is more treat motivated vs toy motivated, handles well on leash, calm steady demeanor, minimal barking, basics of training sit, down, shake, receptiveness to people/willingness to please, etc etc. It's no wonder he had been looking for months!)

So I decided to take Daniel back to the Timid Ward. This ward is unavailable to public viewing, the dogs here are deemed too shy to be handled. But it's also where we have found our most amazing saves! We walked in and I showed him a dog that had been on my radar... Beast. Beast was severely emaciated, but did not bark in his kennel. We took Beast out, and out of his kennel he shined. He passed every one of Daniel's test and criteria. Daniel marveled. He had not seen or encountered a dog like this after months and months of searching with his Service dog trainer.

Beast (now Sarge) is on his trial adoption with Daniel. Many dogs that come into the shelter are taken in as strays. Beast however, was owner surrendered. After pulling Beast into our care and safety, I decided to give the owner a call. It was a rare opportunity to learn about Beast's past as with most other dogs we are forced to guess. Beast was indeed owner surrendered. Reason: Ate a neighbor's duck. Given the fact that he's 25 lbs under weight, it took every effort not to blurt out "hm I wonder why he felt the need to eat a duck??" Beast was bought from a breeder, a purebred GS at 8 weeks old. He was raised on a farm setting with other dogs, and even kids. Beast slept in a crate in a garage and it was unclear to me if he was allowed in the house. The former owner praised Beast as loyal, obedient, did not wander, good with kids and dogs. "He's a good dog."

We thought so too. A great dog, actually.
We will keep you updated on Daniel and Sarge's story!!

Twinsies!!!

Yeah they both look like very cool dogs and i'm guessing you and hans would totally hit it off or already have? I'm in the same boat (my apt. place has breed and size restrictions), such a shame, but was able to recently and finally get another dog-he weighs all of 12 lbs.:laughing and spent his first four months alive in the shelters in Modesto before getting sent to Dublin spca.
He's half Chihuahua and half Italian Greyhound also I guess and Dublin has a great dog park where I take him every day, sometimes twice lol! First small dog I've ever had and gotta tell ya he's a total game changer.:cool
l?
Hey Dan, I was scrolling through the thread and found this pic of your dog! Crazy that he is a complete look alike of a dog we rescued out of Martinez a month ago from the super timid section. Now he is a star Will post up a pic of him...
