2021 New Bikes and Updates

Lighter? Sure. But definitely not more powerful. The peak power number being higher doesn’t mean a more powerful engine. The Hayabusa likely has significantly more power than the GSXR1K everywhere except for the last few hundred RPM and will feel way more powerful.

Supersports run pretty short gearing so, I doubt that. Hayabua might make more torque across the range, but those bikes also tend towards really tall gearing. Same way that from a roll in top gear the S1000R would stomp my SuperDuke.

Anyways, all of this is distracting from the fact that Suzuki is too cowardly to put forced induction on their bikes.

But the 911 evolved underneath. Each generation is an entirely different car. Each generation of the Busa is the same bike with different body, less power (this year), different instruments.

The redesign/ retooling costs are far too much and the Busa shares too little (chassis) with any other models/ model. Not worth the investment when the market is shifting away from these types of bikes. Seems they should take two Busa motors (and electronics) and chase the side-by-side market with that type of product. Rename it their "Busa" S By S. The most value the Hayabusa has for Suzuki is likely in its name.

It's got a bunch of new electronic farkles, Brembos, cruise control, and even heated grips, and not nearly as ugly as Gen 2. :dunno

Suzuki has sold what, 180,000 busas since 1999, 911's since 1964 are at about a million and a half.... I'll bet there's more profit in 911's. :laughing

"Bolt-ons". They have dealers who request them so they're gonna produce them with different bolt-ons. Probably a reasonably profitable/ unit, but not enough for big changes.

Anyways, all of this is distracting from the fact that Suzuki is too cowardly to put forced induction on their bikes.

ONMC is dictating the future of motorcycles for us now. That means low volume models are going to be warmed over until full implementation in 2035 or as long as they can be profitable previous to that date. ONMC is a disaster for the bikes we love and would love. That being said, volume is the final arbiter and sport bikes aren't on the high volume list right now. Too narrowly focused and aside from a race track, too much overkill. The Bush probably has more usability...

I dunno I feel like a lot of the regulation fears are overblown. We’ve had ongoing increases in regulation and we’re in a golden age of 200+HP bikes. They’ll figure out new tricks or we’ll just lean into the glorious cyberpunk future of electric bikes.

Since the Vmax is exiting, Suzuki should have come out with a true naked Busa not the 120 lb over weight Bking. I think their 1400++ cc excuse of insurance is lame since the ZX14 is already there. It's nice to see they added the new electronics but damn $18,999 suddenly for the same performance as last year?

I realize the B-King wasn't exactly a naked busa, but published weight for it had it weighing less than the busa of its day. They were both heavy bikes. If it was 120# overweight, the busa was there or close.

Yeah sorry it's been a while, the original Busa weights were listed at 474 dry (later posted up to 534lbs) versus 518 for the B-king, and 551-563 wet on the Busa and 578 lbs wet for the Bking. Man it sure felt heavier sitting on it.

The 19″ wheel was a off-putting as well, especially to this sport biker’s heart and soul – though, my issues with this have waned since actually riding the bike. Seeing it in person helps too, as the bike’s real-life lines and colorings help complete the visual package.

Not a new bike, but Indian made some changes to the FTR, namely fixing some throttle glitches and 17" wheels. :thumbup

As a person with a '19 FTR S that throttle glitch is not chill.

Have you priced those online? A $13.5k bike sure turns into a $20k bike fast. The S model colorway I like (with the red "tank" covers) is $1500 extra. Many more ways to spend a lot of extra money on that bike.

I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but there are lots of other new bikes I'd enjoy too. E.g. Tracer 9 GT. Cheaper than the red "tank" FTR, and it's not gonna get much more expensive in extras. I couldn't find a way to price extras/options on Yamaha's web site. On the MT09 & MT07 though all the colors cost the same.

I can vouch for that price tag. It came out well above the ~$13.5 mark.

The Pan America is coming out in February

Just a reminder, they are doing their launch event on the 22nd. You can sign up to watch here: https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/products/bikes/future-vehicles/pan-america.html

Here is Kevin Cameron's view of the new Pan America on Cycle World. Pretty impressive, with cut away views and specs.

After the sumping issues Harley had with the early M8 engines, I'm glad to see this one is wet sump. I'd have fewer concerns about buying an early model year.

I'd like to take one for a ride. It seems like it could make a good only bike (if you can only have one).
