Rolls with it...
It's begging for a Baja kit to replace that fairing...
Boz said, “As a function of VVT, we have a super-broad powerband. People who ride KTM and BMW have said it feels more powerful than the competition.”
The 1250′s crankshaft has two crankpins, staggered at 30 degrees to each other. This reduces primary shaking force and spaces top dead center of the two cylinders (the rear is offset to the left) 90 degrees apart. A primary balance shaft deals with both shaking and rocking. A secondary balance shaft is located between the cams of the front cylinder, geared to one of the cam phasers. This shaft therefore gives a different vibration at idle, making the engine feel “alive,” but runs smoother at freeway speeds. Balance shafts save weight, for without them bikes would need heftier structure just to survive their own vibration.
Why not balance everything to zero?
Michael Carlin, Chief Engineer Powertrain, said, “In Milwaukee-Eight we intentionally kept some vibration, because otherwise it doesn’t feel right.”
More power and less weight than a GS? Not what I was expecting at all.
as always, lots of "feeling" with H-D ... :laughing:facepalm
Price-wise the options seem to compare well with BMW too. I see $2600 extra for the Special with all the things except factory luggage. For BMW I'd expect 3 packages from $1200-$2500 with different, not totally compatible features, where I'd want two packages to get all the things including luggage.
Anyone remember the backlash from the HD fanboys when Harley launched a watercooled motor on the V-Rod?
Can someone who's a hardcore H-D person tell us what the feel is like for this bike amongst the H-D community?
As someone with a deposit in on a new R1250GS, it is an interesting competitor. However, I don't think I would abandon the gold-standard in the segment for a newcomer just yet. Maybe I'll regret it in a few months...
150HP isn't too bad either.

It looks pretty awesome on paper. A lot better than I expected. I don't like the weird headlight and fairing though.
