Yep. Happens to me too. I've never been able to figure out if the package is actually ditty bopping around the country or the 1's and 0's are getting mixed up in the system and the box is sitting under someones desk.

if it's showing up on the tracking system as moving, I think it's actually moving :laughing

I once sent a certified piece of mail that went to a lawyer to his old closed office, and that sucker bopped between Kansas City and Chicago for like 5 months before finally making its way home to me, well after the case settled.

There is a deliberate effort ongoing to break the USPS and privatize it (And break the largest union in the US). I can't believe no one has mentioned (lack of) DeJoy yet.

It should be possible to talk about this in an apolitical way. How about this?

Supply Chain Dive said:
  • Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's operational changes to the post office beginning soon after he took the helm in May caused confusion within the service, and led to "slower and less reliable mail delivery," according to a report released Monday from United States Postal Service Assistant Inspector General Mark Duda.
    -
  • DeJoy's operational changes, according to the IG report, included the elimination of late and extra trips to transport mail, organizational restructuring, expedited street afternoon sortation, and roughly 57 other initiatives to cut costs and reduce work hours. DeJoy accelerated, but did not begin, the removal of mail processing equipment, according to the IG.
    -
  • USPS had estimates of the cost savings these efforts would bring (64 million work hours), but not their impact on performance, according to the report. USPS performance figures bottomed out in late-June and early July, according to USPS and third-party data. DeJoy pledged to release performance data weekly for the rest of the year in August.

I think you can sign up for notifications. You give them your contact info and then they sell it while taunting you with this kind of detail.

But the messages seemed like they were contacting YOU?
The system is contacting me, no person involved and the system is an idiot because it simply watches my package get ping-ponged back and forth and does nothing.

We'll see if they figure it out today. I put in delivery instructions and filed an email complaint.

There is supposed to be a way of changing the destination, but despite being qualified the system won't let me change that because it isn't one of the types (of which my package is, in fact) to allow that.

But how would they contact you unless YOU GAVE A FEDERAL AGENCY YOUR PHONE NUMBER OR EMAIL ADDRESS???

Clean your glasses - that's not what I said. If I show you a straw, do I still need to explain you how to use it?

Here's a few more links to help you connect the dots.

I also think that a place like ebay might send you tracking updates...

Just trying to help but I suppose Climber should explain how HE is getting notified.

Anytime tracking is available with usps you can get updates by email by providing them. You can also use your tracking number to see progress without providing information, though they already have it because they have to have an address to deliver to.

You don't have junk email accounts that you rotate out?
I do. I have about 12 accounts, some that I created to see if a company was selling me out since they were the only one that I used the email address for.

Yes, but not for any Government agency. I just send them hardcopies in the mail, then hide in a bush in a ghillie suit with optics and watch the mailbox for a few months until they respond.

Then I burn down the mailbox. Since the IRS switched to online tax submission only it has been a horror story. Burning down a new laptop very year is fucking expensive and like, when I watch the burned husk from the bushes, I have never actual seen any feds come look at it.

They get more devious every year.

I heard last year they switched to mandatory e-submission due to COVID. Did you mail yours in last year?

Yeah and I'll have to mail it in this year too. Due to tax treaties I have to attach a document, and e-filing doesn't support that kind of attachment.

They still haven't scanned my 2019 return.
