So....column seal.

Some people would put this on....before the steering column was final mounted but....

Coat hooks. Not that it'll ever see a coat, but....shiny.

Final install of radio, ignition switch, gauges, wiper switch completed.

No idea where the ashtray is.

It'll turn up.

Maybe.

Stock '62 Ford Headlight switch. Theoretically.

20200420_132223.jpg

Like everything else, wired per the painless wiring instructions.

I had my choice of headlights or tail lights, but not both.

So I googled the switch terminals. Just "Headlight switch B1 B2 etc."

It perfectly matches a Mopar switch. Wire it up according to that and everything works perfectly.

Not sure what happened there-I have the switch out of the parts car and the original-they all match the new one. I'm going to assume Painless is confused somehow.

Just another thing that took way longer than it should have.

I try to share the candid approach. I'm currently five years into a six month project. Ew.

Heater out. Be sure to remove the lower heater hose first. It'll pop right off. That way the seemingly limitless amounts of coolant it contains can slosh out the entire time you work on the upper hose, which is somehow permanently welded to the heater core.

Really, the core is delicate and hoses are cheap so just cut the fucking hoses you should replace anyway like you knew you should have.

50 years of dirt removed along with all gaskets.

Rattlecanned, because it's going under the dask and I suffer from early onset lazy.

Foamy goodness that isn't beer. Who knew?

Less than stellar instructions.

20200428_094913.jpg

I fit checked everything in the seal kit (fancy name for a bunch of foam) and then stuck it on with glue. Such is the high standards I established when I worked in the ye olde aerospace industry.

Potentially 17% less drafty.

On the driver's side I thought I'd be bold and install the lock cylinder before the door panel.....Unlike what I did on the passenger side. Foresight my friends. It's only taken 40 some years to get to this point.......the point at which my mental decline will offset the knowledge built up over decades. Time is a cruel mistress.

Apparently the bit that holds it in goes where the weatherstrip that I already installed is. I had to remove the weatherstrip and restick it, which is what the yellow tape is doing.

Door panel...half on.

And...on.

Oh look-charging/aux port thing. It looks like an inch to me.

One spade bit later....

20200505_210509.jpg

The hole was so tight I almost had to thread it in.

Now one can listen to modern tunes/charge their phone in style.

Also have all four speakers wired up now. It sounds good.

You need backup lights in mass, and out here, we have inspections. They check. Missing equipment? No drivey.

So I needed backup lights and I had gotten rid of the ugly originals. Picked up some cheap LEDs...

20200515_151126.jpg

Fabbed up some brackets.

20200515_151057.jpg

Lol.

Reassembled the heater:

20200526_202449.jpg

It can go in tomorrow after the paint on the interior side of the firewall dries (it was rusty behind the heater).

I put the rear bumper to body seal in place and finalized the rear bumper.

Exhaust is re-hung.

Fuel line re-secured.

Mounted an electric switch for the brake lights by the pedal as those old hydraulic switches suck and the one it had was broken.

So how can the state require a car with OEM equipment to have modern technology usually they give a pass to those vehicles if it didn't come standard with it........

Also are you a glutton for punishment???????

The state does not.

The inspection station won't put their name on it if they're not sure.

They don't know what became standard when so, you're going to have backup lights or you ain't driving. They're insistent my military Jeep needs a license plate light. Because I'm sure the military wanted a built in locator for the target. Doesn't matter what documents of laws I produce-they'll happily tell me to fuck right off. So, it gets backup lights.

That and I live in the woods-it'll be useful.

Glutton for punishment? There's a bunch more projects after this one.

Got the heater in. Surprisingly unwieldy.

20200527_202026.jpg

The stock heater hoses (what I have) do not fit this car due to the V8 swap.

The lower one needs to go through the firewall and make a little joggle, like this:

20200527_202642.jpg

It has coupla part numbers on it. No luck yet.

No pictures because it's all stupid little things.

NAPA came through-found an old guy and he found the hose I needed. It was too long so I had to snake it through the firewall, unsnake it, cut it, resnake.

All heater hoses now installed.

Heater motor wired-now with multiple speeds!

All heater control cables hooked up.

Defrost vents installed. Ducting installed. It now has defrost for the first time since I've owned it. Heat for the driver, too.

Glove box is in. For the record the correct order is radio, heater hoses, heater body, ducting, ducts, heater cables, glove compartment.

There were many iterations of me installing things in the wrong order.

Next build I'm keeping a notebook.

Most of the underdash wires are now secured.

20200531_175804.jpg

Next up is putting the shifter handle on so I can locate the console, wire the console up, install the seats, wire the seats up, and then front carpet in there somewhere. Ideally before the seats. Then kick panels and kick plates and off to the windshield place.

A few things after that and then...done! And then don't drive it anyway because the registry is closed.
