The best plan is not planning on Social Security being there when you need it. I've been putting money elsewhere for years with the goal of not having to rely on or even expect Social Security in my older years.

This.

Ms. Myers doesn't fully understand what she's ranting about.

She is ranting that she paid in via a tax with a promised pay out.
Call it what you want ..the above is what was sold to Patty.

When our own Government sells such to a citizen we should believe it..riiiiiight?

I dunno. I believe we owe it to our elders to take car of them. Much like injured military.

Politicians are needed, that's the way our style of democracy is set up. Too many, if not all, are worthless. But its the system that made them this way. The only way to fix it, IMO, is to let it fail and rebuild it the right way. More like an evolution as opposed to a revolution.

I can agree with taking care of our elderly and military. To do this we need to kick off the Illegals, the Lazy, the incompetent and the scammers from the system. That alone would bring Social Security back.

This lady has a legit gripe and nailed it right on the head. The POS politicians use the elderly as a tool to scare everyone into thinking the opposite of what is reality and the reality is exactly what Myers Stated.

I was forced to go on MediCal and MediCad in 2010. I was refused. I had no money in the bank, had no assets to sell and yet I came to get this so my daughter can get insulin. After 3 hearings we where granted this. My first visit I witnessed 3 people who could not speak a lick of English walk out with 225 emergency funds. I wonder how many times a day through the nation these illegals get 225 cash for emergency? yet I after paying into the system for 30 plus years had to beg

As a young person, i see it as some group of people sold people in the same generation an unsustainable plan paid for with their taxes. I think maybe you should have stopped it 40 years ago. Basically their 'greedy' generation came up with a plan to pay a little bit now and get it all back from the younger generation later. The politicians of their era got re-elected partially on the basis of SS, so I lay the blame partially with those that voted.

Edit: I should add this is heavily influenced by growing up in the 90s. Growing up my parents said they never expect to get a dime back from SS but at least their parents are getting SS payments so in effect, they are giving money to their parents with the gov in the middle taking a %. My parents dont expect to get any SS, I dont expect to get any SS, its just a black hole of nothing to me.

Edit2: And i might need to add i only apply this to the retirement portion of SS, Disability and the myriad other things SS does are another discussion.

Hey ebRider, you might want to spend a few minutes and research SS.:thumbup
DT

Apologies if i'm not clear, I dont mean that SS was created 40 years ago, I mean politicians the entire lifespan of the people currently retiring have been promising to fix SS. LBJ, JFK, Bush, etc. Certainly the congress's at the time as well. In the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s SS faced shortfalls but instead of killing it it has continuously just received a higher and higher portion of the working stiffs salery. In essence pushing the bill down to the next generation.

If you mean something else please describe and link, 'history' is a long subject and something i enjoy learning about.

Fixing and privatizing are separate issues. One of the foremost problems with SS was/is that it was a giant pot of gold, funds were "borrowed" and not paid back, bonds were issued, and now we are entering a crisis.

Documentation for your claims please. Most social security payments go to people who have retired after working 40-60 years, not scammers or illegals.

You claim you have a right to med-ical, but others don't. :laughing

Alan Simpson, the Senator from Wyoming calls senior citizens the Greediest Generation as he compared "Social Security" to a Milk Cow with 310 million teats.

Here's a response in a letter from PATTY MYERS in Montana ... I think she is a little ticked off! She also tells it like it is!

"Hey Alan, let's get a few things straight!!!!!
1. As a career politician, you have been on the public dole (tit) for FIFTY YEARS.

2. I have been paying Social Security taxes for 48 YEARS (since I was 15 years old. I am now 63).

3. My Social Security payments, and those of millions of other Americans, were safely tucked away in an interest bearing account for decades until you political pukes decided to raid the account and give OUR money to a bunch of zero losers in return for votes, thus bankrupting the system and turning Social Security into a Ponzi scheme that would make Bernie Madoff proud.

4. Recently, just like Lucy & Charlie Brown, you and "your ilk" pulled the proverbial football away from millions of American
Seniors nearing retirement and moved the goalposts for full retirement from age 65 to age, 67. NOW, you and your "shill commission" are proposing to move the goalposts YET AGAIN.

5. I, and millions of other Americans, have been paying into Medicare from Day One, and now "you morons" propose to change the rules of the game. Why? Because "you idiots" mismanaged other parts of the economy to such an extent that you need to steal our money from Medicare to pay the bills.

6. I, and millions of other Americans, have been paying income taxes our entire lives, and now you propose to increase our taxes yet again. Why? Because you "incompetent bastards" spent our money so profligately that you just kept on spending even after you ran out of money. Now, you come to the American taxpayers and say you need more to pay off YOUR debt. To add insult to injury, you label us "greedy" for calling "bullshit" to your incompetence. Well, Captain Bullshit, I have a few
questions for YOU:
A. How much money have you earned from the American taxpayers during your pathetic 50-year political career?

B. At what age did you retire from your pathetic political career, and how much are you receiving in annual retirement benefits from the American taxpayers?

C. How much do you pay for YOUR government provided health insurance?

D. What cuts in YOUR retirement and healthcare benefits are you proposing in your disgusting deficit reduction proposal, or as usual, have you exempted yourself and your political cronies? It is you, Captain Bullshit, and your political co-conspirators called Congress who are the "greedy" ones. It is you and your fellow nutcase thieves who have
bankrupted America and stolen the American dream from millions of loyal, patriotic taxpayers. And for what? ........Votes and your job and retirement security at our expense, you lunk-headed, leech. That's right, sir. You and yours have bankrupted America for the sole purpose of advancing your pathetic, political careers. You know it, we know it, and you know that we know it.

And you can take that to the bank, you miserable son of a bitch. NO, I did not stutter. EVERYONE!!!

******

P.S. And stop calling Social Security benefits "entitlements". WHAT AN INSULT!!!!
I have been paying in to the SS system for 38 years “It's my money”-give it back to me the way the system was designed and stop patting yourself on the back like you are being generous by doling out these monthly checks!

I just saw this, right on Budman.:thumbup

Not that i didn't agree with the message but Social Security is called an "entitlement" not as a personality trait but quite literally Entitled. As in YOU are Entitled to Social Security because YOU PAID FOR IT. There are other entitlements as well, for instance, medicare is a entitlement. Any who, it was a very good read thanks for the insight!

What entitlements are you talking about? If you PAY for something, how is it an entitlement?

That's what I mean. How the F**k is it an entitlement if I am required to prepay for it in advance?

Look to my above quote post please. Entitlement stems from the root word entitle. As in entitled. As in you are entitled to it. as in you get to have it. As in it is yours. The SS money is yours. You should Love the word entitlement when used in this fashion.

Not very good usage. The term in today's English is vernacular and used to mean a state subsidized stipend.
