yeah, who the heck is the barfer who sells mattresses :confused

um, um, um, see getting old sucks, suffering from CRSC syndrome :loco

If Adam has a motorized bed already then the only thing needed should be a mattress eh? I have the motorized bed(s) with tempurpedic mattress and there is nothing special about the mattress itself far as I can tell :dunno

paging the barfer who works at a mattress store to a white courtesy telephone :party

wot, it can't hurt :rofl

Count me in for some money. Hey, I just sold a jacket for Adam's fundraiser, kindly donated by Wormwood, so instead of me sending that to Adam if we are going the mattress route then that money shall go to this effort. $165 :party

I'll throw fiddy in too

I was just searching through some old PMs and saw one from January 11 that I sent to you, Adam, when you were soliciting info about insurance carriers. Judging by the date from your original post, that must've been within 2 weeks of your accident!

I don't know why I was even searching back that far, but I saw your handle under addressees and then I double-checked the date of your first post...eerie.

I hope we get an update on that bed soon! I never understood the hype about pricey, name-brand mattresses until I bought one...man, what a difference.

Adam,

I know I'm late to this thread, so apologies for this late response. First off, congratulations on bring a survivor! While your story is tragic and somber, your positive attitude and will to continue are inspiring, and I hope that many barfers (and others) have been touched in a positive way. Thank you very much for this. I am especially pleased that reason prevailed and we are not on a witchhunt for the person(s) responsible for this accident. What happens, happens, and your efforts and energies are better spent working on yourself. I'm sure you've realized how meaningless so much of normal life can be, and how meaningful the truly simple things are. This type of perspective shift is almost never welcomed, but the fight to continue, to perservere and to prevail is at the core of our humanity. You will overcome.

I have often contemplated serious injury, but having never been truly immobilized, I am certain I am unable to comprehend the full extent of your experience. I do know that your life is still full of possibilities and dreams to come. Your body is not the same now, but there is hope for a better tomorrow - and in the meantime, you have the greatest, most magical tool ever created - your mind. It can be a terrible prison, or your gateway to untold imaginations, and the choice is yours which way to use it. As others have said, there are shining examples of disabled people who continue to contribute and pioneer, proving that an indomitable spirit will find a way to triumph.

The holidays can be difficult for many people, and reading through this thread, one comment stood out for me so I'm highlighting it here again.

Living with regret regarding the decisions you made toward riding that got you to where you are is poisonous. Recognizing what happened for what it is - not your fault - can be really important.

Please continue to focus on your dreams. They may change with time, but they are our most important resource and the currency that fuels our lives. Hold fast to them, but don't be afraid if things don't turn out exactly like you planned. Never stop looking inward to find new paths forward. We are all rooting for you to have a fulfilling life!

Everyone, please take a moment to recognize the perils of riding - especially during this crazy distracted holiday traffic, and prepare yourself accordingly. If this means walking around with bulky gear off the bike so you could be warm and have functional fingers while riding, so be it. If this means saying no to that "last one for the road", please consider it.

Adam, please reach out with any ideas you may have for assistance devices. The legion of Barf is full interesting people and while we can't build an exo-skeleton or rebuild your nervous system, we can create many, many things that might make your life easier. Please don't hesitate to use the compassion and creativity of the group. As others have said, you are one of us.

Happy Holidays and may your journey to recovery and beyond be a blessed one.

Thanks MotoLiam!

Hi everyone. It's been a while since my last post and a lot has happened. For a little over 2 months I have been involved with an in-home outpatient rehab program called rehab without walls. A lot of the rehab time was spent establishing routines, getting medical equipment ordered and setting up supply companies. Sadly, during my my rehab I was plagued with pressure ulcers (which have only just begun to heal and ate up quite a bit of rehab time). Many of you generously donated for an amazing bed which is still in process of being authorized by the insurance company, but I have no doubt will resolve the issue.
I also spent the last two months arguing with my caregiving agency , trying to establish my morning schedule. Which for some reason has been considerable pain in the neck . They have been consistently denying vital medical services I'm entitled to and I may be forced to take legal action. Hopefully it won't come to that. I do have some good news though . I have been trying out a new medical stim bike which led to the discovery that I have some very small motion in my left leg . I'm not sure how much I can actually regain, but every little bit counts. Updates to follow. :)

Wut? No offense, but what do they have to authorize? You got money, they go buy it...

:thumbup THAT, sir, is an exciting development. Hope that whole caretaker thing gets resolved without the threat of legal action. I'm sure there are folks here willing to assist with getting that rectified.

Adam... stoked to hear the update. At least as far as the physical being moving in the right direction.

The challenges will continue to be there for you and I hope you continue to meet them with your best effort. A lot of good folks care for you.. and the support just here still makes me proud that this place has such caring people in the mix.

Above all.. I hope 2012 brings continued recovery.. continued resolve and more comfort for those that love you the most by seeing the progress.

Best young man.

My OT advised to wait for the decision from my insurance provider for a denial or approval.
They denied it of course but it was worth a shot.
SOOO...I just ordered it !! THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE!

Great speaking with you yesterday Adam, and very happy to hear that you have some motion in your left leg :thumbup

Also glad to hear you have ordered the bed. The total contributions from amazing barfers is $4505 :banana
Some of these funds went directly to you via Marc or other means, so I owe you $4015

I'll get a cheque to you some time this week
