I've lost my ability to ride...amongst other things

About four months ago I was leisurely riding to a friends house. As I was crossing an intersection an suv blew a stop sign. Rather than continue through the intercection he stopped in the middle, blocking both mine and the oncoming lane. I couldn't react quickly enough to save myself.
I ended up underneath his suv with a broken neck. The amazing firefighters that responded and a spinal fusion saved my life. After three hospitals and extensive rehab I am a C4-5 quadriplegic with limited use of my left arm. I require constant assistance, live with terrible pain and am confined to a bed and power chair.
I have never regretted my choice to ride since my accident, in fact I miss riding most of all and hope to one day ride again.
Just thought I would share my story, and I hope I'll still be allowed to stay here on barf. Thanks to all the good people on here and ride safe.
:)- Adam

Adam... what can I say. Your strength of character is impressive as hell... I don't know that I'd have anywhere near as positive an outlook as you do... mad props. It's obvious you love riding... you're a rider where it counts- in your heart. I certainly hope you continue to stay here on BARF, and get your moto fix that way.
Never have I hoped more for karma to do it's magic than I do right now for the driver of the SUV.
If there's anything I can do, please let me know... if I had a bike with a side hack, I'd take you out for a spin...
Please stay strong... and when you can't, please know that we're here for you. I'm just a PM away.

Wow, You are truely a strong person. I admire your courage to stay postive and not bash on the SUV driver too much (even tho they deserve it). :thumbup

There aren't really words that are of much use but I'll do what I can.

My mom was in a car accident when I was four and she was 20. Her spine was severed and she has been a paraplegic since. She still has use of her upper body so is less dependent. However, like you, she lost the ability to do something she was passionate about since she was a runner and olympic hopeful. Her initial reaction was to give up entirely. Fortunately, a very stern nurse and a supportive family were able to get her to move on and she has since accomplished some things many people, herself included would never have considered possible.

You attitude toward your bike and riding may be one of the pillars you will need to figure out what next. Living with regret regarding the decisions you made toward riding that got you to where you are is poisonous. Recognizing what happened for what it is - not your fault - can be really important.

Also, not giving up on the things that made you happy before (BARF) is also a good sign.

Strength, man. And the courage to let those around you know when you ain't got it.

:wow Dude. Fuck the cager..! Keep your spirit high man... Your a survivor and that's what counts. Let me know if you need anything. I'll be going to Laguna this year. You should try and make it there. I think it will make you feel better. It worked for me when I was all jacked-up. Take care and shout if you need anything..! :)

Echoing what others have said I don't know if I would have your outlook. There isn't much else to say. I am so sorry. :( I am glad you made it trough though.

If i ever get a side car you are more than welcome to ride in it. I hope the best for you.
