Do you park your car/bike in your garage or is used for other purposes?

I like parking in my garage so I don't have to hose off my windshield in the morning and my car isnt freezing when I got to work BUT the past 6 months I've been parking outside because I've been using my garage for shop space. I'm thinking about buying a table saw, non-portable kind, and would further make it difficult to park in there I think. Tough call.

I've also noticed driving around town, Danville area, that many of the big ass houses around here have cars parked in the driveway like a Lexus commercial. I mean, some 4+ car garages and the cars are all outside. Whats the deal with this? Guess maybe they are using their garages like me.

got room for a tuff shed? they make nice little shops. My cars and trucks stay outside. the bikes, quad, lift, tools and all assorted toys stay in garage. one day i plan to get a General Shed type shop/garage/storage structure but i don't have an extra 15-25 grand laying around.

having lived in condoland.... most people that don't park in the garage use it for storage of shit that should have been thrown away long ago.

the ones that use it as a "shop" keep it dual function to some extent

i suspect the people with the lexus collection outside are the packrat type, and have a shitton of kids toys scattered on the garage floor

We've got a 3-car garage with 0 cars in it 'cause of all the crap. But the bike absolutely goes there.

3 MC's, 1 scooter, and roadster in the garage. + all the camping gear, tools, and boxed shit that I should have gotten rid of (and one day I will). Most people seem to use their garage for other purposes than parking vehicles inside them.

I use my garage. Have two cars, a motorcycle, and a scooter plus all my tools. When I need to work on the bikes, I just move one of the cars out and I have space. I live in a good area but I never want to leave anything outside.

I've got three cars, a truck, and six motorcycles parked in my garage at the moment - but it's an unusually large garage.

I also have a full size work bench and a pool table in another part of the garage.

I feel very lucky to have so much garage space.

Below is just a part of my garage.

unless their target is your car
That's exactly what I was thinking.

The expensive toy goes in the garage. Tools, bikes and stuff stay at the shop. It works well until I get the urge to work on something at home and need a tool I have at the shop 5 miles away.

Danville isn't a target for car thieves. They prey on less-affluent areas like San Leandro, Dublin, Fremont, Antioch etc. where the freeway access is easier. Too much of the Danville population is located in cul-de-sacs that take awhile for theives to get in and out of. It's better to go to places where most of the housing is condo/townhomes, because it allows them to creep through a big parking lot and take their pick, without attracting as much attention. When they find something they like, they can just park their van or whatever in front of it, blocking its view while they go to work. Which is how they steal motorcycles. At a house, thieves are more exposed, but at a large condo complex there is more to hide around, and they can act like they belong there, and bring a partner who can walk around making sure the coast is clear. Also, Danville-type vehicles like Lexus, Land Rover etc. aren't really prime theft targets. They prefer more popular, in-demand vehicles like Honda Accords which they can part out if necessary.

people use their garages to store crap.

even well to do neighborhoods.

I live on a street with 3 car garages. most people have zero to one vehicle parked inside. 2 of of nine homes on my block have zero. all occupied by homeowners. one renter...guess who has garage full of shit and have 10 yard sales a year?

also, RE car in driveway = theft deterrent

my in-laws have been robbed 2x in the last 8 months, people around the corner from them once in the same time frame... all in broad daylight when nobody was home. so maybe there is some weight to the argument of a car in the driveway scaring off crooks but if they show up but unless you have a spare car that's always parked outside it's kindof moot if they show up when you're at work.... because they will.

Good point. In my case, my gf is home by herself during the day several times a week. I'd rather make it look like someone is home by parking cars in the driveway, rather than have someone try to break in while she's by herself. I don't keep valuables in my vehicles, but I have plenty of valuables inside the house. They can steal my cars... just gives me an excuse to finally buy a new one. :teeth
