cage motor jumped time :(

so this afternoon, heading back to the city from sj, my trusty integra started running really crappy on the 280, spitting, sputtering, couple backfires & it dies. i coast onto san bruno ave. i can't get it to start back up. i get towed home by performance tow of san bruno. great guys & they ride! after i got home i started checking all the basics. has compression, has spark, has fuel & fuel pressure. pull the valve cover & discover that its jumped time, on the exhaust side, which is luckly cause the intake side you'll bend/break valves. so now i've got the replace the timing belt, pulley & retime the cams. anyway i just wanted folks to no my cars down & i won't be able to do any mobile repair for a week or so. i might be able to get the car fixed in the next couple days, but i leave for the next race on wed.

billswim, if you read this give me a call i need to get some parts & pick your brain a bit. 415-305-6096 :teeth

Owch, you really lucked out. Those hondas are interfering engines: A broken timing belt and the engine bends all the valves!

suzuki forenzas are too...my ex's car did it twice (second time they warrantied her a new engine, and no problems since).

Start looking for a used/new head. Cheaper than rebuilding one. :|

Wait a minute, who am I telling this too? A good mechanic. :teeth

Good Luck Shawn. :thumbup

Depending on the head, you migh have cracked guides also. If you don't have a shop that you use, give me the motor info and I can get you a price on a valve job if you R&R the head.

ooooh. new chapter in the "elskippydoodle's expensive lessons learned" book

i love timing CHAINS, except for the one that was originally on my 63 lincoln that had a steel chain and nylon teeth on the gear. wtf were they thinking?

maybe not......i just discovered that the distributor cap was all fucked up because the rotor got moved out of position. probably happened when it jumped time. i'm going to replace those & see what happens. the cat also got blown out as well as a blow out @ the muffler. awesome!

I had a 84 accord before and the timing belt snapped and I kept cranking the motor over and over before I realized it was not gonna fire. Slapped a new timing belt on and it ran like a champ, no bent vavles in that interference engine :)

if you gots bent valves, how can fixing the dizzy timing help?
i thought i had bent valves cause after i re-timed the cam & started it it ran like shit. after replacing the cap & rotor it fires right up & behaves normally. it shounds like a POS with a fart can on it right now cause of the blown out cat & holed muffler, but it runs & drives normally. i'm going to order up a water pump, gaskets, tensioner & greddy racing belt just to make sure that its solid from now on. woot!!!!!!
