I found out on Monday that motocross is a lot different from street riding. I've done street riding for years but it was my first time in the dirt so I didn't have a clue and all I wanted was to be faster than the 8 year olds who were hosing me on the track. I wish I could blame my accident on a drunk driver or something but it was just me trying to go fast and look cool because I'm an idiot.
I don't know exactly what happened. I'm curious to find someone who was there at Fouroeight mx who might have seen it go down. I remember a jump with a turn right after it and I just didn't make the turn. I remember a snapping sound when I fell and then frantically dragging myself off the track and screaming for help. I lost consciousness once for sure; my boyfriend was helping me into the truck and the next thing I knew I was on the ground feeling like I was waking from a very long, pleasant dream where everything was great and I couldn't believe I was still at the track.
the nurse described it this way: "Think of an ice cream cone with the top fallen off."
Following surgery the biggest thing bothering me is I've had limited movement/sensation in my hand. the doc says he "thinks" it will come back. Does anyone here have knowledge or advice about nerve damage like this?
I want to thank all the barfers who have been so supportive. Bryan (Auntiebling) who gave me an ice machine; I've been using it and its wonderful. Snapper who brought it down and visited with us even though her water heater was having a meltdown. Punter who stayed with me in the hospital and wouldn't stop making me laugh because he's a bastard. Fitnesscoach who took me for a pedicure. And of course Kyle (oceansides), who is just amazing.
