2019 KTM 690 SMC R Supermoto coming to US

How much by can this beautiful motorcycle be lowered?

I like it. And it's not so gosh darn heavy.

(My 29-inch inseam and a pair of 1-inch stacked boots, and I bet it'll still be too tall for me. [Sniff] And I suppose 2-inch heels on motorcycle boots will look too unmotorcyclish? :ride)

I rode DTM74 Dan's 701. Corners like a scalpel and awesome brakes but that seat brought back some traumatic PTSD memories of my 690.
701 might be a smidget more comfortable than a 690 but its got a lot of room for improvement.

These are not dirtbikes where you're standing 60-70% of the time. Crazy to put a dirtbike seat on a bike meant for the street.

The original 701 ribbed looking 701 seat was garbage. They updated to a newer seat in late 2017-2018 bikes. My guess is you tried the original seat.

I imagine you'll be able to ride it, but nowhere near flat foot

Squid.
I am finally getting to rebuilding my SMC. Where would you recommend getting parts on line? Rocker arms, Cam Shaft timing chain and lastly which Gasket Kit do you recommend?

I've been really happy with CheapCycleParts - their shipping is reasonably fast, they've got a great site overall, prices are reasonable. KTMTwins split from Scuderia, IIRC, so I've got less ties to them now.

Use the OEM gaskets.

Sorry for the delay in posting the pictures. Here they are. The picture from the underside shows the adapter you need to use the original brake line.

Only 75 hp :) I do like the KTM better and I bet with some mods you can get 90+ out of it.

Lets see it in person when it comes out, dont really see much difference between 701 and SMC-R to justify a switch.
950 Hyper is a different story, want.

It only weighs 300 and change...if you can get a toe down, you'll be OK.

I've got a 29" inseam and rode a 2008 SMC for a year or so. Totally doable, can get one foot down, but in the end I wanted a lighter bike for supermoto stuff so I sold it and got a 'tarded 350 EXC-F. It's actually taller than the 690 but it's skinnier and lighter so it's easier to handle at stops. YMMV.

Not with "some" mods. You'd need a lot of mods to get 90+. Per my tuner, it's easy to get a huge boost in the midrange on these 690 motors but it's not built for peak HP. It's a versatile, torquey motor. I wouldn't trust this motor producing 90+ unless it was being rebuilt frequently.

On mine, with Arrow exhaust, rottweiler intake, and PCV, I got +12 torque and +11 HP across the mid range but almost no change to peak HP. You'd need to do internal work to do anything major to the top range.

348 wet. But just taking the beast of a silencer off for a Ti version dropped about 15lbs on mine

Come on now, you and I have the new motor 701 with similar mods. The bike is an absolute beast and insane. I can't imagine another 15 hp!

I'm still getting the KTM though! I want the electronics!

Damn that sounds nice. Just started modding mine but just cosmetic so far. Christmas after Christmas (tax season) is coming soon though!

Agreed to that, what I didnt like about my 701 initially when I got it was a poor low and mid range compared to my old 690 SMC. But a new map, Arrow exhaust, air intake all from Rottweiler took care of that.
