Ok so I've been riding the Aermacchi again lately so its getting some more love. I'm planning to "build" a nicer exhaust system for it. I picked up a rough stainless header from Moto Italia and I'm looking at different options for the muffler. Currently leaning towards a "Quieter Core Cone/Reverse Cone" muffler from Cone Engineering. I may need to get some tubing bent to make everything fit properly and I'm still trying to decide on the proper length and shape of the exhaust at the back.
The way the header is routed, if I continue straight and flat the muffler will have to be pretty short or it will hit the swing arm, so I'm thinking I'll have the header bend outwards some and then the muffler will clear everything. I'm thinking the bend will match the profile of the swing arm as it widens from the frame to fit the wheel.
I'm torn about whether I should keep the profile flat (with the exception of the cone itself) or angle it up a little as well. Anyway here are some pics of the header. Any input welcome. Link to Cone Eng slip ons https://www.coneeng.com/pdf/motorcycle/MC-finished-Mufflers.pdf

I cut the muffler off my old exhaust to use as a mock up. I think I've got what I want it to look like. I ordered a muffler off ebay. I think they are the same manufacturer as Cone Engineering as they use the exact same text on ebay as on the Core Eng website but the mufflers are available in more sizes and they are using a different name. I went with a fifteen inch cone/reverse cone quieter core. In the pics below the muffler is actually 12" long but I have it mocked up so the exhaust tip is 14" away from the end of the header pipe to give a 1" overlap. I think it will be close to where the real exhaust will end. The muffler I bought is also 304 brushed stainless. I'll need to have the end of the header bent outward just a bit. I'm excited to see how it looks!

The new muffler showed up today, so I loaded up the bike and took it to my local muffler guy and we marked it and put a 15 degree bend in the end of the header. I'm super pleased with how its looking. Next I have to decide if I'm welding the muffler to the header or clamping it, and then I need to make a bracket to attach the muffler to the frame.
The new exhaust is much more quiet, and the bike starts much easier with it. I assume I'm going to lose some top end but we shall see. Hopefully not too much. Here are some pics.
