I’ll see if I can get Kalle to stay ‘til then, too ... my experience from years gone by is a lot of guys were still thrashing to get their bikes sorted Friday night ... :laughing

get a chance to have you update me on BARF Baja 2020 ... :toothless

Hi John!

I haven't been on the forum much lately.... Are you riding the Melee this year? I can't make it to the Club on Friday. But my bike seems ready to go. :) Will you be up at the start on Saturday?

Hope you are well!

P.S. Welcome to the Melee, Daniel! :ride Looking forward to seeing your cool little bike!

Hi 65_dreamer! :wave

Third time's a charm for your CL350! :ride

I'm out of the Melee this year, we're planning a moto-trip in Portugal/Spain in November, so that's my excuse ...
I have no excuse for not showing up Saturday morning ... :laughing

wishing you and 1962siia a wonderful 2019 Melee ... :party

Thanks, John! A trip to Portugal and Spain sounds amazing. Though November is a pretty long ways away.... Haha.

The third time was the charm for the CL350. I made it last year! Hoping for a 1-1 record for the CL77. :)

Did the bike survive? Did you survive? Report!

Hey ThumperX,

1962siia was only 2/3 through the ride when you posted;
he should have been in Ft. Bragg this morning ... :teeth

The Moto Melee is a three-day, 900 mile ride, which is pretty
epic on his Sprint ... :ride

We all had a great time at the Moto Melee Send-off party at the SFMC
on Friday night. There was a HUGE crew of BARF Baja veterans there ...
eight of us just off the top of my head.
Think three BARF Baja vets are riding in this year's edition of the Moto Melee ...

only got a couple of pics, cuz i'm a loser, but the bikes were awesome: :toothless

super-cool late 1960's Triumph Chopper with a Tiger engine ...

one of my favorite engines of all time, think the art-deco-ish motor is just beautiful ... in a BSA Thunderbolt here ...

continued best wishes to all the
Moto Melee riders ... :gsxrgrl

The bike made it! Had a few small issues but it ran like a champ! Spent a little time each evening giving it the once over tightening things etc but over all I was pleased with how it performed. I see some more changes in the future like rear sprocket could use a couple more teeth, electronic ignition so it’s 12v with real lighting but it handled great and got 60+mpg! And I was flogging it! Fun times!

This is awesome to hear! Did it return with all it's parts still attached?

How many miles did you do in total?

If the pavement is decent it’s a comfy ride. Handles like it’s on rails actually. I lost one nut but other than that nothing came off that I’ve noticed yet. Not sure on miles because I don’t have an odo. My guess is approx 800-850 miles. I only had trouble on one road from Ferndale out to Honeydew which was seriously goaty. Almost lost my carburetor on that road and my mind. Pot holes where impossible to miss and they were the kind that swallow bikes. Still fun though and added to the adventure. The last day was my favorite day. Super fun group and super fun roads. Mostly coast hwy 1 and some mildly goaty stuff too.

not sure, I think I’ve a spare 35mm Marzocchi longer-travel complete fork assembly from ‘70s Ducati 450 Jupiter/RT stored upstairs - paired with equally longer shox (don’t have those), you might be more comfortable next year

oh, safety wire or Nylock nuts may reduce loosening somewhat

you did super, 1962siia -
from your 1st post forward, itz been great fun seeing it all play out :thumbup

Sounds like Daniel's bike held up better than mine. My bike returned with less parts than it started with, but it made it! The list is here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BzJFUoXBKM6

The main route was a bit shorter this year (about 750 miles), but there were plenty of alternate routes.

Nice to meet you, Daniel and see your bike in person!

Nice to meet you too! Not sure if some of your parts fell off on the Bonus route on day 2 out to the coast but that was the bumpiest road I've been on in a while. Sorry I didn't get to ride with you, but maybe another time! Your bike is gorgeous btw! :thumbup

You're probably referring to Mattole Road leading out to the Lost Coast. I didn't ride that on Sunday, but have done it in the past. I like the goaty roads, so I don't mind it. And when you see the coast, it is stunning.

My bike looked much better before the event, but bikes are for riding, I say. :)

Thanks!

Mattole Rd was that bad summer '16, past the redwoods it turned to potholes. My back never hurt so bad the next day, even rocky enduros.
Humco doesn't have any money for road repairs, warning signs for washouts are at the bottom of the washouts after a year or so.

Hanging out with Baja Barf and SFMC friends on the bridge over Austin Creek at the intersection of King Ridge Road and Cazadero Highway.

I think you're thinking of Wilder Ridge Road - making a right after the Honeydew store. Part of the road is gravel and then the "paved" portion took out a couple of bikes when there was an unmarked ~6" drop in the road. That was nuts!
