You Are Not Alone

Doing something that you enjoy makes life worth living. That saved my marriage. That and being assertive about what I want.

Sometimes I have to ask myself, "What do I want, what do I need, and what can I get?" Because, there's a difference between what I want, what I need, and what I can get.

Need: food, shelter, clothing, companionship
Society dumps added needs: money, transportation (transportation to get the money to get the food, shelter, clothing)

I've lost passion for for photography. I despise my job and the company I work for. I am sick, almost all the time, with various symptoms and all the doctors tell me they can't find anything. At the moment I haven't been able to really eat in over 36 hours, other than tiny bites now and then, plus there's a lot of, um, lower abdominal stress. So, I'm extremely weak and nauseous. I'm contemplating going to the ER, but I don't think that will help either. I'm just so extremely tired of the physical and mental pain.

Sounds like GAD:

Lylith, don't accept that. A doctor's inability to diagnose does not mean you are well. If they really think it's in your head, ask for a referral to a mental health professional (preferably a psychiatrist, those are also M.D.'s).

I passed the psych eval when the first doc said it was all in my head.

It sounds like you need to get "out of your head" and be more proactive. You live in the best place in the world, you have a job and a roof (most people hate their jobs) plus you're smart, a motorcyclist, and you have people who give a shit about you.

Believe me it could be a lot worst. AA saved my life, it gave me a chance to be a part of something bigger then myself and a chance to be helpful to other people and to stop worrying so much about me, I am my biggest problem not booze. I know you're not an addict but there are other groups out there.

You and a couple of others in this thread 'sound' so much like a friend of mine that it's freaky.

Sometimes modern medicine sucks. If your insurance is getting in the way of finding a better doc, maybe google will help you figure out possible causes. For example a search on "doctors unable to diagnose" led me to this as one of the first results. Dunno if that fits, but I'll bet you can find some results that do. Hang in there.

Miri,

I have been away from the computer for a few days and just got caught up.
I hope that you have been able to find some peace through all of this.

I very much understand the question of "why even keep trying" and feeling like it is too hard. I have found peace and hope in something that is outside myself because at times I am unable to face it on my own. Now I know that I have a purpose and mission, and others benefit from me pushing on even when I do not feel like it.

Often times I need help to get through it. I agree that many folks right here on Teh BARF are awesome freaking people that are willing to go way out of their way to support each other(like searching the freeways at night looking for a stranded biker, or going to a funeral of a stranger just to stand by a friend in need).

There are amazing things to see and do in this world. I pray that you are able to see and do them. Do not be afraid. You are not alone.

I'm learning that there are some incredibly amazing BARFers here and they, over the past 24 hours, have meant the world to me.

Doing ok?

Honestly? No, not OK. Maybe a little better, but I can't honestly say OK.

Perhaps it's time to find a new hobby? I find I burn out on even my favorite of hobbies after a handful of years, so I have to hop from hobby to hobby.

I couldn't tell you whether it's the rest of the crappy things (job, being sick, etc) that has caused you to loose interest, or whether you've truly burned out, but unless you feel it's very unusual for you to loose interest in something, try branching out and finding something brand-new & cool to learn :)

It's my craptastic health, craptastic job and craptastic camera. Otherwise I love photography.

A little better is good. Look at it this way, it took you a while to get where you're at so it will take a while to get to a better place (which you will)

Miri, there are so many steps that can be taken to make things better... please let us help. You don't have to deal with things on your own. We're here, we care, and there are enough of us to help figure things out and make a difference.
