What's the cheapest/easiest way into the twelves in a car?

I wish I never sold mine. A good used one will run you about 9-15k easy

Found this one for $5k with a quick Google search. :cool

This was a very unusually powerful car, I remember some magazine tests where they got into the high 13's on a cold day. I had two different friends who turned their daily driver turbo Buicks into 12-second machines. Not much needed really when the OEM version could already do high 13's...

And you know the same turbo Buick motor was used in the '89 Trans-Am right?

The one you found was only a T Type and all the way in CT.

The Turbo trans am's engine is slightly different.

they all were under rated on HP because they couldn't be more powerful than the GM flagship vette

ls1 fbody either the camaro or the trans am. All you really need are some good tires, and some long tube headers

I specifically listed T-Types in my first post, pay attention. :laughing

The Grand National was a T-Type with black paint and high-performance logos on the seats. Same motor. :teeth

The '86-'87 Corvette got humiliated by the '86-'87 turbo Buicks, that was some serious egg on Chevy's face.

T-Types will turn into a pretzel without braces and a cage.

No seriously.

A DSM becomes a 12 second car for, like, $1000 worth of mods.

I love dsm more than almost anyone, hell i've owned five of them. However, there aint no dsm getting into the twelves for 1k of mods and still be anything resembling reliable or streetable. I 1g awd gutted to hell with some mods and a great driver might get you into the twelves but its going to break everyday of the week.

Here is the winning formula. Buy ls1 camaro. Add 100 shot nitrous, drag radials and some seat time say hello to twelves.

my buddy has a way hopped up 1st gen talon that needs a tranny. sure you could come up cheap. big turbo,3 1/2"exhaust,HKScams,GM MAF,greddy sick ass boost controller(forgot which one,but it's the one that works with the piggyback ECU.) ported manifold, buschur head. I did a lot of work on this car myself, it is easily a 325HP car at the wheels.

On a related note, anyone needs turbo tuning help hit me up. I had a 600+hp grand national that ran 10's on lo pro street tires and would lift the front on launch. Sucks too because I sold that car for 13k right after I basically upgraded all the weak links because I was moving to Japan. Help is free for barfers of course

I don't even think you need nitrous with the ls1 camaro to hit 12s. Drag radials, exhaust mods, and maybe a gearing ratio change should do it.

Deffinately don't but it will garuntee you get into the twelves. Low twelves at that even with driver error. Those things are so easy to make fast its sickening. Now that they are cheap you can't help but to want to pick one up.

12's is not fast. too many cars are there nowadays. an ls1 camaro is hard to get fast and still be reliable for dd. unless you nickel and dime everything, do the installs, and nothing breaks.
to get into the 12's is easy with nitrous. you could get a wet kit for ~6-700 with accessories and be low to mid 12's. i went dry and have over $2k+ into it with tuning software, wideband, nano, and a lot more. with a stock car and dry kit minus nano, i ran 12.5 on a 2.1-2.2 60', trapped 115 using low pro street tires, no burnout.
a cheap ls1 camaro is likely to have high milage and the rear is probably going to go out. 12's is definitely not hard and knocking down 11's is doable with little money but i personally would not do it without what i deem is proper support.
for me to be dd and try for the low 11's maybe high 10's, it cost/will cost something like this:
$3500 for a rear end
$2500 for a transmission
$2000 for nitrous, tuning software,wideband,ect
$300 for injectors(dry shot)
$700-1000 for wheels and tires(17x11 chrome zr1's with street tires)
$400+ install costs for a torque converter, and cooler
$250 for a fuel pump kit
~10k for the stuff mentioned and more that's unmentioned, you might be able to get everything used for ~5-6k. and everything here is given that a 100k mile stock engine holds up.

otherwise if you can do installs, go
~$2500 heads/cam/intake/exhaust
~$250 fuel pump
~$300 for a clutch(must have an m6)
~$700-1k for wheels/tires(slicks or drag radials maybe)
~$300-400 for a tune
~$600-700 for a wet 100 shot.
do a lot of weight reduction
and pray that nothing breaks and you're in the 11's.

mid 11's has been done with tires, rear end, h/c/i/exhaust, and a good driver. roughly 400whp, a 1.6 60' and trapping 116-119. but that's something i can't imagine that i would manage to do. but it's been done.

this is a deal here, i'm not sure if the guy still has it for sale.
37k mile t/a runs 11.6 $14,900. you would basically be getting a free 37k mile car if you bought what he spent on mods.

Uh bro a H/C/I/E f-body should be making well over 400whp and probably over 500. If you have an automatic there is no need for a tranny or rear end right away even if you are using drag radials. I do agree 12's is not fast but its a realistic goal for someone to have for a fun little car. Several of my friends have gone mid 12's in m6 cars with tires, small cam, and full exhaust. with way worse than a 1.6 60'.

x2

a stock ls1 will run high 12s with just DR's. if u buy an auto you can throw a new trq convertor in it and run mid 12s easy, add gears ull be around 12.3 with a good 60ft ....

a4 will be good if u just wanna drag race. but if u wanna enjoy the car and have a lil more fun on the street m6 would be good....

You guys are fgtz.... :rofl

Easiest way into the 12's.. Seeing as how a mid milage 2002 Corvette Z06 is like $20-25K This would be the quickest way to "Git-R-Done".. Street driveable, DAILY drievable, Simply buy some ET Slicks, do some "light PCM tuning" and whalla, Low - Mid 12's all day long.
