What if the Mayor of your city banned motorcycles

You should put your AMA # up like the rest of us, ya' know? :)
When AMA has been pitched before, we used all the benefits you get for your yearly fee, besides the legislative help. When you include the towing and other discounts it is like getting representation for free.
and BAM!

Headlines from the weekend - Would you rather pay to drive in Downtown SF, or drive in gridlock for free?

Good golly. There might not be grid lock if you City Managers hadn't turned all the streets to garbage with bike, bus, and taxi lanes. Don't forget that you don't post signs for construction work until it's too late to change paths. Add to that mess that you actually try to make a profit off transportation, which seems counter productive if you REALLY want to help the traffic situation.

You Councilpersons are all happy to allow more and more building of skyscrapers without any consideration that the people must get to the stupid things. Yeah, you won't be collecting too many taxes on empty buildings, if you cut off transportation, Homer. And I don't suspect those exorbitant room taxes will be growing, either, Mr. Simpson.

Btw, SFicans and others: I parked my vehicles when I lived in the city and took public transportation, unless I was leaving town. And that was decades ago, for over-crowded sakes!!

What is needed IMHO is a national spokesperson, someone who is a take no prisoners type to push a collective agenda. Anything less than that leaves motorcycling to a divide and defeat scenario.

Get Keanu Reeves on the phone, he fits that description to the T

We already have to pay to drive in SF, at least anyone who's not on the Peninsula. All the bridges into the city take a toll.

They want to convert the rest of our freeways to Pay-2-Play, which is of course going to fuck up traffic even more than it already is, but hey, somebody will get the revenue and be able to spend $100's of Millions on new digs and give themselves big raises. :thumbdown

Just goes to show how corrupt caltrans has become!

This article is really poor journalism. The title of the article is pure click bait. After reading the article the prior linked one, I found nothing about the mayor advocating a ban on private use of motorcycles. The main debate is over whether motorcycles would get the same elevated status as pedestrians, bicycles, etc.

So that is worth debating but shocking headlines like "banning motorcycles" is just nonsense. I am sure it prompts a lot more web traffic. :teeth

Well Zack, I don't write, but I read em :laughing And I don't dare try and interpret my understanding about anything on the internet because...well you know, there are smarter folks than I after every click post reply :teeth

Anyway, I had heard that there might be a taxation plan for the City of SF, and it matched what is being proposed in the UK. However, I was surprised to read (in article) that it's actually a propsosed State Bill and could impact many Cities in California.

I guess if they tax us for driving/riding/commuting/parking, they could make the choo choo rides free?

Common sense doesn't apply for municipality governance.

Most likely, they will raise the rates because there would be less competition.

I'm currently in London and think this is laughable. There are so many motorcycles and scooters and there's a huge Moto scene here. If they actually try and implement this, they'll have huge protests.

Just like in the bay, you've got loads of folks Moto commuting into London proper and all those people in cars would destroy traffic. Only big difference between London and the bay is that London probably has 100 times the amount of 2 wheeled commuters.

Yup. Illegal Aliens with valid driver's licenses. Pedestrians with right of way at any crosswalk. An attempt to exempt bicycles from stop signs. SF will probably ban cars next year...

Anything crazy is possible in California and especially the bay area and LA.

City of SF does have a current plan for zero carbon emissions for all city vehicles in the not so distant future.
