Thanks man. 2007 250 XCF-W. I'm anxious to finally ride again this weekend after having to fix it and wait for parts. Probably gonna do Metcalf Saturday and Sunday if anyone wants to join!

Put 90mi on the DRZ today and had a great time. We Took Lowell Hill Rd from I-80 to Hwy 20, then 3mi to Bowman Lake Rd, then all the way out to Lake Faucherie. Did a little swimming and then did it all over again. Nothing technical, any big pig of a quasi-dual sport would make it just fine. It was all the type of riding you'd get good fuel economy with, but I was still surprised to see maybe a gallon left in the tank after 90mi. Didn't take many pics, but here's one of Faucherie...

I took my 690 and KDX to Metcalf with a couple of buddies. It was the first time on dirt for one of my friends, and my little KDX served him well. Meanwhile, I beat up the 690 (still with street tires from the Quincy rally). It did really well on everything, including the single track. Such a cool bike.

Took the rekluse out and put the stock clutch back in. Changed oil and ready for Forest Hill tomorrow

Not able to come to terms with the rekluse? Are you going to Sugar Pine or China Wall? We did trail 6 several weeks ago and had a nice time. We went counter-clockwise, which I think is easier. I'd rather go up the switchbacks, which are actually pretty fun, instead of going up that rocky section when you're near the end of the loop and out in the sun. Good stuff either way, have fun!

I quite agree. I bought it from someone who thrashed it pretty hard, and I've had an issue or two, but am still really impressed by the bike. When we ride together, you are welcome to take her for a spin.

Not able to come to terms with the rekluse? Are you going to Sugar Pine or China Wall? We did trail 6 several weeks ago and had a nice time. We went counter-clockwise, which I think is easier. I'd rather go up the switchbacks, which are actually pretty fun, instead of going up that rocky section when you're near the end of the loop and out in the sun. Good stuff either way, have fun!

I have the zstart which is the older style. You can still override the clutch but the feel is always spongey and changes due to the way the auto engages with the ball bearings, and when you overrode it it was like an on/off switch so you couldn't feather properly. If I were to do it again I might go with the new core exp, but I also like doing gnarly hill climbs with low success rate, and trying to turn the bike around while it's free wheeling is a bitch.

Ooh, one more tip, if I may...if you go CCW, right after the first bridge there is a tricky climb. It's short, but technical. There's a crummy rock filled line to the left and a crummy rock/root line to the right, but right in the middle is this metal mesh/fence material they lay down over some rocks. Right in the middle there's a raised "V" shaped entrance that doesn't exactly look appealing, but hit that V (just a pinch to the right from center) and ride it right up the middle. It's the baller line while your buds are getting snagged by the wadded up fence material.

Bummer on the rekluse. Man, you are a glutton for punishment, I hate having to turn around on steep hillclimbs. :laughing

Yesterday my dirty bike stayed clean...mostly. Did a big loop with a buddy who got his hands on a sportster. Went from ukiah to Booneville, then out to the coast and up 1 to Ft Bragg. Had lunch then ripped hwy 20 to willits then back to ukiah. Must have rode 100 wheelies throughout the day. was too much pavement for the XR so I drove off the pavement and out onto the dirt pull offs then pop back up onto the pavement here and there for fun. Makes big dust clouds at 65-70 mph. Of course I did it when there were no cars behind me. Was nice to ride with somebody for the first time in about a year even if it was at Harley pace.

Front tire is about done. The nobbies are starting to resemble cheese wedges from setting down at speed. Thinking about trying a street legal front tire if I can find one that looks like it will work ok in the dirt. Did t like the MT-21 front for dirt riding.
