The upside of the Rona

wannabe

"Insignificant Other"
Only time will tell if it’s a good thing, but this rona thing has reignited my dream of buying a sailboat and sailing off into the Pacific.

Edit: Whether or not I actually follow through with it, I have to admit that it’s nice to have something to dream about again.

Zero upside. And I don't see less pollution, while great, as an upside of Rona. We could trade pollution for poverty any time that we wanted. I don't see how being forced to do so by this virus could reasonably considered 'upside'.

I read an article this morning about a couple and their child cruising around the world for 5 years in a 40' sailboat. They are stuck in a port in the Pacific someplace because all the ports are closed due to the pandemic ... and monsoon season is closing in and they are worried they won't be able to weather the monsoon as well but they can't sail away from it because their boat doesn't move fast enough to stay ahead of the storms...

Seems like a great adventure, if you like sailing on the open seas.

Well.. I am sorry for the zero upside.

I was up on Mt. Hamilton Saturday and it is clear as heck. It was amazingly so actually. You cannot see it looking up. :laughing

I am generally a positive type of personality. I need to look for the good.
I have founds some for sure and I am not weighing what I find is up vs. the down in these terms.

There are a lot of downs for sure, but the opportunities to find the ups are there if you can let the other stuff go. I cannot control the downs. I don't think as individuals we can control much of them. Sure work harder.. :blah

That is not what this thread was about.

I have more than stated... looking in the mess for little nuggets of good is part of me. I like that. Helps keep me moving forward in the face of adversity.

Today's good??

Well I knocked out another chapter in the book I am writing.
I had some great memories come flowing back doing that.

This one.. "My Grandma watched me crash 25 times"
A tale about the first motorcycle race a family member came to watch me on an incredible muddy MX track. :laughing

I am amazed at how detailed my brain is on these things that involve motorcycles and family.

Sharing those with a few close friends brings me joy too.. When they laugh I smile and laugh too. The list of those keeps expanding. In the end I should have fun book for my grandkids to look at now and when I am gone.

I'm glad my life is not in a place where I can't at least see a little bit of the upside of things.

Upside implies that there is a net positive outcome. I don't do depression, but there is nothing net positive about the coronavirus for me; as every aspect of my life would be better without it, and the stupidity of this indefinite SIP just makes it worse.

I think the point was to try to find some silver lining here, on a personal level.

The big upside for me can only be mentioned in the PolSink! :laughing

But we did use our stimulus check to buy a brand new stove, old was small gas cooktop, convection electric oven and couldn't read the LED temp setting.

New one is very large gas cooktop with the same footprint because the knobs are in front not on the right hand side of the cooktop, the oven is gas convection and darned if the thing doesn't cook better bread and boil water and simmer a ton better than the old one.

So, yes, I'm getting fatter.

no - upside implies that you look for any silver lining you can find in an incredibly difficult and challenging time. and people are trying to do that - keep their sanity and their head above water. while i try very hard not to go negative or personal, you speak as though none of the rest of us are frustrated, angry, sad, impatient - and wanting to fucking scream. the thing is, we are all just trying to keep our shit together. and your constant fucking haranguing is making that MORE FUCKING DIFFICULT THAN IT ALREADY IS. we get it. you’re pissed. like we’re not. ffs, give it a rest already.

Mine are personal. I have 3 kids ages 2-5. Being able to spend this much quality time with them is a blessing and something I will cherish forever. My wife being my best friend also helps so we just enjoy ourselves. I wish the same for others also.

While I prefer many luxuries to be open, it’s fine as is and we come up with other days to do activities and explore local areas.

One thing we found early that works for us is to give each other a couple of hours of alone time go on a long walk and disconnect from the family and have your alone time. That took a lot of the frustration out and keeps things sane.

To be fair maybe he's single and has no pets.

That would be great for a short while but likely would drive me bananas for an extended period.

Or is stuck in an apartment with less than ideal housemates.

That would beyond suck.

Truth be told I've been illegally meeting with some friends about once a week or so for two hours 8+ feet apart outdoors to catch up and BS.

Our neighborhoods been doing the same thing. Driveway cocktail parties. We all sit 8' apart and limit it to 10 people dispersed on the lawn between a couple of driveways. Everyone brings their own chairs and beverages. No sharing.

Same here. One of our neighbors is musical. He gets some musician friends to come over and they take over a court two houses down. Good sounds and wine. :thumbup

We had a social distancing happy hour in my gym's parking lot.

Just those 2 hours sitting around (apart) chatting and having a drink was really enjoyable. Im introverted, been working from home for 2.5 years, and it was easy for me. This though? This has made me miss people.

I miss hugs. I happen to see my best friend from CA for about 2 hrs last week. She has been depressed and immediately started to cry when I said "how are things?" the fact that I couldn't get up and hug her killed me.

You just described a silver lining. I'm talking about upside.

Sorry, for upsetting the group think on BARF with a divergent voice. I know it often disturbs the echo chamber.

Aren't you tired? I mean you must be so worked up all day long commenting on every covid thread with the same thing over and over and over again. Isn't it exhausting?
