We have heard less pollution. Etc.

But I am talking personally.

For me.

Reconnecting with old friends.

Getting some stuff done that I would not have while living on the hamster wheel.

Some good riding in now happening.

More chatting with the family ... vs seeing them once a month. I am more clued into the daily life of my grandkids.

Getting to know others way better then before.

You??

Any good side of being in a pandemic?

I get to meet neighbors from blocks away on their walks. Repeatedly.
And their dogs seem to be really, really happy too. They (the dogs) might be thinking... WTF? Could this be the new normal?
Nah.
Still. Cool stuff, folks getting outside.

I don’t have much of an upside, personally.

Not meant to sound negative. It’s fine.

I’m kind of enjoying it in the same way I enjoyed the last time I was unemployed. I wake up, get my shit done (applying for work and networking) then fuck off for the rest of the day.

I kinda do the same now. Working from home. I get what needs to be done. Then I take a nap, play video games, whatever. Some days I’m so far ahead of my work tasks, I decide, “hmm, I’m just not gonna get out of bed today at all.”

This situation for me may never happen again when I can be super lazy with not much consequence, while still taking care of my responsibilities. So I’m enjoying this snapshot in time.

I’ll be back in the office at some point and back to martial arts training. I’m staying on top of my diet. Actually down about 5 lbs. Most likely loss of muscle.

In summation for my personal situation, I hit pause on the clock for a bit, knowing I’ll be back to the grind soon.

The volatility brought into the market has presented opportunities that wouldn't have been available otherwise.

A reason to run daily and work on cardio outdoors instead of running on the treadmill at the gym.

Not needing to commute.

Saving money by not going out to bars and restaurants.

A lot more time to myself to think about life, reflect on things and plan for the future in different areas. Namely, in weightlifting, martial arts, finances and career.

The upside for me?

Learning deeper time discipline. Its easy to just drift through a day seeking distractions to kill the time. "Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day. Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way."

'Puter and keyboard saved me. Set my intentions to write for at least an hour daily. Ended up with double or triple that. Finished a book I was writing, plowed right into the next one and generated the outline for a third.

Besides, wearing headphones while generating prose keeps spousal prompts from intruding.

Even though I am retired I am getting more done around the house.

Using order and pick up grocery and Home Depot. Not wasting time shopping.

Found you can buy a motorcycle all online and over the phone.

Last but at the top of the list. A reminder that I married the right woman 42 years ago. Life is still good.

My wife and I are also retired, and in most ways we feel very little has changed for us. But we are really enjoying the beautiful blue skies and lack of jet contrails. Also we were introduced to Zoom meetings with friends and that has been great fun, so much better than a phone call for connecting with friends.

repaired the walls and painted her studio
filled the freezer with smoked meats
bought and farkled another Vstrom
sold the old vstrom
lost 10 lbs
got to better know some of my neighbors as we're having weekly cocktail hour while socially distancing in our driveways
without the stress of work, slept better then I have in years
now I know what my retirement is going to be like and it looks really good.

My gas is getting stale. No more rides to dinner.
I have to take the truck for dinner now, take out not sealed enough for bike transport.

Nice Pink Floyd reference. :teeth

I started writing a book. Started when I was texting with a friend and some stories were shared.. and received well..
"You should write a book!"

Damn.. good idea.. :laughing :thumbup

Three chapters done and 20 others titled and ready to roll.

I am thinking like a coffee table book that I can give to my kids and grand kids. Not really a for sale thing. Once I format I will post the moto related one's here.

I love this. It hard to not focus on anything other than all the bad stuff. Nice change of pace to think about anything good that has come out of it.

For me?

- Saving a boatload of money not ordering out or drinking/eating out. OR doing much of anything like bored shopping. :p Go shopping every 2 weeks and cook dinner every night which is now routine.

- Ive been baking a lot of things from scratch. Banana bread, tortillas, white bread, dinner rolls, cakes, biscuits. Its been fun and my family loves it and it tastes SO much better than store bought.

- Friendships are a big one for sure. Getting closer to some and really being there for others. When every day feels like the day before its nice to have friends you can chat with to really bring your mood up. Ive been really happy about this one. Its been a ton of fun getting to know one in particular. Surprising and makes me happy.

If you would have asked this a month ago I would have said quality family time. Now.............. :laughing I need a break. But in all honesty for the most part its nice having everyone home.

It's been 100% upside for me!!
I used to be an obsessive-compulsive, paranoid, socially distant, germophobe... now I'm completely normal! :laughing

We MIGHT all get personal space back.

We MIGHT also get parents to control their children from running wild in stores and restaurants.

There might be some other good things.
