The most challenging motorcycle roads?

Terrible roads. Just terrible. Pine needles, cows, lumps and potholes. Terrible. Stay away.

I heard that there was algae and slime in the shady spots, not to mention deer and antelope roaming.

Don't think I'd ride those roads.

And bears. Don't forget the bears.

:laughing You guys and gals are barking up the wrong tree. Anyone clicking in this thread and looking up these roads deserve what they get. :p

Although Kurt made me think I need to start another thread...roads with no center line only.

Forks is always a worthy mention. That road is just scary because of the epic cliff. But totally worth it for Callahan road that follows.

One I haven't seen mentioned is shelter cove road. It is challenging for a few reasons.

1. Fog/wet often
2. Steep and then more steep
3. Insane locals

I rode it solo in pouring rain. That stuck with me.

Lol, was searching google for "Geysers Rd + motorcycle" and this thread came up (doing research for my route to Weaverville tomorrow).

Btw, I rode Forks of Salmon at night (did not know what type of road it was when I set out at dusk, lol). Absolutely epic.

I'm one lucky SOB, I believe that 16 of the roads listed by the OP are within 50 miles of me and and a 1/3 of those within 20 miles!

One I've not taken all the way is Sweetwater Springs Rd. Can anyone tell me if it is paved the whole way?

In no particular order (other than memories of great rides at all times of day and in all kinds of weather) - Bucks Lake Rd, Oroville/Quincy, Hwy 36 eastbound from Arcata, Hwy 299 westbound from Redding, Hwy 49 from Grayeagle southbound, Hwy1 from SF to Oregon, and about a zillion other great roads in N. CA and Oregon. Not so much on the experience in S. CA, and Washington has very few roads that don't suck pigsballs.

As to the most 'hair raising' - Forks of Salmon on a ZX11D at night in the rain might qualify. Same with Hwy 36 in a raging wind and rain storm (also at night) on my Triumph Tiger. At least the Lights of God and the heated gear were up to the task!.

I've rode Ebbetts Pass, so many times, I can't give a number...

Once it was so difficult (Got caught under a Storm cell rain dump) The challenge was off the chart. So much water in the air, everything turned the same shade of dark grey, no detail showed. Road, rock embankment, other side of road drop off, tree's, everything was the same. Rapid fire lightning flashes did reflect off the flat surface road, just enough to say Where the road was though... That made getting out from under this storm cell, work.:thumbup

I rode it last Friday. It's paved. There's a big ass gravel stripe down the middle in many places and I got slidy a few times. :party
