Absolutely. Most of the City people I know live in The Mission, The Castro, Russian Hill, North Beach, etc. They live and work in the City and don't leave very often. When taking a safari to Napa or some shit, they just get a zipcar or whatever car share they are a part of. None of these people are originally from the Bay Area.
I think that's a bit of a generalization. I worked in SF for years in the financial district and almost everyone in my group that lived in SF owned a car. Some couples owned two. And some of them drove to work from the Castro, Twin Peaks, etc. Some of the young newbs didn't own a car, but everyone else did.
