How many gas/diesel/fuel,etc. powered engines do you own?

Qualifier: Must start and run. Business fleets, parts engines, engine block boat anchors in the back yard, crappy old non-running project trucks or motorcycles, etc. don't count.

I'll start:

8, trying to get down to 6.

Right now I only have 3. Car, Bike, weed whacker. I may soon go up to 5. I am planning on buying a Generator soon, because Fuck PG&E, and I am thinking about buying a truck, for weekend projects.

You own a car in SF? I mean, in your own parlance..."Why?" :dunno

I own a small truck in SF. I guess the why is because I have a garage to put it in. Also groceries suck without a car.

I know panniers on your bike or whatever. It's not the same.

Its also good for driving my dog to the park...

I think most people that owns cars in SF don't use them to commute, if they work in the city. At least I'd hope so.

Nah I was just giving Mike some shit since he always touts SF as a city in which owning and/or driving a car therein is pointless. :laughing

It really is. Just about nobody has one. :dunno I never said pointless though, I just said it isn't really worth it and you don't really need to. All my years living in the City I fucking NEVER drive the car in the City. You take bikes in the City. The car is for if you are a weirdo who leaves the City.

So you're saying you're a weirdo since you leave in a car to go visit other people that choose not to live on your so-called island? ;)

Absolutely. Most of the City people I know live in The Mission, The Castro, Russian Hill, North Beach, etc. They live and work in the City and don't leave very often. When taking a safari to Napa or some shit, they just get a zipcar or whatever car share they are a part of. None of these people are originally from the Bay Area.

I recognize that owning a car in the City is a total luxury to allow yourself, but it comes with like $1,000 a year in parking tickets if you aren't one of the rare few in The Sunset or Outer Richmond who has a garage.

The only people I worked with when I worked in the city were all a bunch of young kids who were anti-car in the first place. None of them were originally from SF but every one of them lived in the city. I think it's more of a young people thing than an SF thing. There's plenty of cars in SF...probably too many.

No, not young people. It was simple for most of the people I know. Everyone they hang it with is already in the City, because if they do not live there they work there, and all of their family is in Boise, Manchester, Hong Kong, Lincoln, wherever they came from, so there is simply no need to leave, since all the best places to hang out are in the City anyway.

Where's the poll?

1 moto, 1 car. Garage is too small for anything else, and we hire a guy for the yard stuff.

Boy if that's not highly subjective... :laughing
