So my buddy is all gung-ho for doing this, just want to make sure about what we're getting into and that we won't be completely out of place.

I'd be on a street-legal WR250X-SM, he on a street-legal DRZ-400SM. I'm a mid-pack AFM novice, but have done only one supermoto trackday ever. He's close to as fast as me, but with lots more SM trackdays under his belt.

Are we going go be completely outclassed / rolling chicanes for everyone else? Does anyone care?

Are there licensing requirements? Do I need to prove I can even ride a motorcycle? Or is literally just show up morning-of, sign up, and hit the track?

Bike prep seems super basic. Water wetter, tape/remove lights and mirrors, remove side stand, and slap some numbers on the fenders. Easy enough. No belly pan, no safety wire, etc.

Classes (as if I haven't been bit in the ass by this before)!
Vet+35 - is this just for anyone over 35 years old? Fast guys only?
Open Novice? Open Beginner?
GP1 400 - looks like this is OK with 17" supermoto wheels.

How many races do you guys typically sign up for?

Anything else I'm missing?

The GP1 class is perfect for these bikes. I'll be there on my DRZ400sm too:thumbup. Sounds like you got the info right...pretty easy (nothing like the AFM!)

Brok recently posted in the NorCal Supermoto FB group. He said "no license or membership cards required for this race"

I'll be in Open Am. I suspect the two of you fit best in GP1 - verify with him that the WR250X is allowed but I'd be shocked if it wasn't.

At this point most fast guys fit in Vet classes too.

The level in Open Expert/Pro is very high. Same for the Vet class.

You will be fine in in GP1 and probably Open Am (novice/beginner).

If you aren't going to safety wire, consider putting some silicone sealant on your fill and drain plugs. Passing tech and having a safely prepared bike are not always the same thing. A little extra prep is better for you and everyone you are racing with.

Race day practice sessions are very short. Just a few laps. Pay attention to the practice and race order posted on race day so you don't miss your group. If you can make Friday open practice, the extra track time will be a big help.

I would plan for the practice sessions to be three or four laps each and be happy if they are any longer than that.

Any tire vendors at the track? I have a 150R supermoto I raced 3 seasons back, with 5 year old tires on it. Probably time for some fresh meat just to be safe.

Also, there is no separate "adult-mini" anymore? The kids are way too fast/ light :)

I would not count on a tire vendor being there. Best to get tires in advance or check with your preferred vendor to see if they will be there.

I'm planning to be out there on my 150r doing the mini and gp2 classes. Don't plan on tire services being available, get that done in advance.

I’m hoping to make the race. I have not been riding this last year but since it’s a local race it’s worth it. I’m so happy they are having a race at Sonoma again. Great track.

Are you allowed to camp in the parking lot the night before the race? Was thinking of going to the practice and race the mini class mext morning.

I asked on FB:

is camping at the track allowed friday night?

and got this reply:

Yes, provided you are signed up to race Saturday and have purchased a $10. Pit pass wrist band - * NO hook ups

now, it seems strange to me that racers have to pay for the pit pass, but oh well... I'll still be there

there shouldn't be any cost to enter the track as a whole, just the kart/supermoto track (tell them you're going there).
