Ah fuck. :drool
That's a $5000-$6000 bike all day long. Shit. Fuck. Seriously.
If that's a Service Honda AF it's worth twice what they're asking. Easily.

You're too late brah, already told him I'd take it.
I love my 300, it's a beast. I really want to ride a 500 just to see what it's like, after all the build up from everyone that rode them when they were new/common.
Browsing CL I see them for so relatively cheap it's so temping to just buy and try out. Then I started thinking about my baby boy (4 months old), and I had this flash vision of me and my friends sitting around in 20 years talking about this dirt bike from 40 years ago that was so wild it was indescribable, and my boy and his friends just rolling their eyes saying 'yeah right'. Therefore I feel it's my duty to buy one and keep it for 15 years and then throw him on it to keep the legend alive. Probably the most round about reason to buy a bike ever :laughing
Thoughts? :laughing

CR's . They are shaped more like a 250 which makes them twitchy to ride. Better for MX but sucks for offroad. Get A KX500 For trail riding. There is a reason why they ruled baja for years and years. You can actually lug a kx like a 4 stroke when needed and the mega torque just keeps it going. Then when you want to hit hyperspace you just scoot up on the seat and nail it. The back tire starts spinning and doesnt stop till you have had enough. You will loop out a CR all the time in spots that a KX will just spin its way through. They have a much longer swing arm than the honda. Never got to ride the big KTM. First KX 500 was a 1987 when I was about 16 years old. After that I was hooked and upgraded to a 1990, then another '90 that was in better shape, then a '92, then a 2004.
I raced big bores for years...Maico's and Honda's. My favorite was the 86 cr500, awesome motor and great handling...when Honda went to inverted forks the handling went to shit...it was hard to hang on to any Honda 2 stroke in the 90's let alone a 500!
The modern 450's aren't as brutal as the 500's and because of the power characteristics they are easier to go fast on, that's why they replaced the 500's. I was racing a 250 2 stroke when the modern 450's came about. Up till 2004 I was still winning expert races against the 450's but it was hard. On the 2stroke you have to be perfect...throttle control, clutch slippage body english and gear shifts had to be spot on...with the 450 it was so much easier...I'm exaggerating here..but it's almost like "just twist the throttle to go faster"...didn't even matter what gear you were in :rolleyes.
I love the new 4 strokes now, but will always have an appreciation for the brutality of the old 500's... and the men who raced them!:teeth:cool

Went back and reread the entire thread. Didn't mean to turn it into a "which one is better" thread. Sorry everybody. The answer to the original question is...Yes, which ever flavor you prefer, everyone should own a open class two stroke at least once in their lives.:thumbup
Glutton! :laughing
Besure to post followup and let us know when you're gonna be out at Hollister so's we can all take turns on it... :teeth
Think of it as a CR250 with roid rage.
I backed out because he can not confirm it's a Service Honda, in fact he doesn't know what Service Honda is. I'd just got see for myself but he's 200+ miles from me.
