Rossi Contract

Considering his pretty significant decline, is it possible that Yamaha pay him out (partial or full) and get another guy for next season? i'm not familiar with how GP contracts are set up.

One season is a long time and it seems that yamaha is better off getting someone on now. from a marketing standpoint, if they announce that kind of thing now, there's still a few races left in the season to see him off properly.

Rossi is still the most popular rider in the world and him on the bike sells more Yamaha's than him not on the bike. Also they have 1 or 2 other bikes on the podium lately so I'm sure they are happy. Until MM hits that number 10 Rossi is still the GOAT and as far as I'm concerned like Ali, Gretzky, Magic Johnson and Pete Rose always will be.

There's no way they could afford to pay him out, and/or take the loss of revenue from cutting him. It would also be a PR nightmare.

From a marketing standpoint, it's a horrible idea.

GP attendance and Yamaha sales will plummet with Rossi off the grid. no one is going to force him out early.

Fabio is already getting an A-spec bike for next year and Petronas has already hired the right crew to keep him competitive. so theres little need for him to move to the factory team.

You know whats odd, Ive noticed that far more riders are wearing MM gear than VR these days - speaking entirely from visual observation, not any concrete numbers.

That doesnt discount your point though - even if VR happend to be second, that would still be Yamahas best revenue generator.

I guess i didnt really think that Yamaha would be happy being on podium alone - theyve won one race all year? But most likely they are happy with an upward trend in results -

This. The SIC Petronas squad is much more than Tech 3 ever was. Its a super team with people like Zeelenberg and Forcada who have years of success under their belts as Yamaha racing insiders at the top level of GP.

yeap...
As much as I'm a Rossi fan, I really hope he doesn't renew his contract at the end of 2020... take a test role or something, but he's not on the sharp end of the stick anymore... there are no more titles for him.

Between Fanco, Maverick and Fabio, I just feel that the pace and riding style has changed enough that Rossi is litterally being left behind...

Crew chief change next year is all nice and good, but unless he's on the podium day in and day out, it's time to go. His last win was over a year ago and his last podium was at the beginning of the season :/

I am a Rossi fan and hate to see his era ending, but reality is, reality and he is not winning races anymore.

I think he will stay on the grid through the end of 2020 for all the reasons stated above.

What I hope for 2021+ is for Rossi to have his own MotoGP team. Maybe take over as team principal or owner of the Petronas team or become team principal for the factory team...

Yamaha and the sport need him to be involved in more than a testing role or some other ancillary role.

Yamaha aint winning races anymore. they'll prob end the year with fewer wins and podiums than Duc. they'll beat Suz on podiums but may only tie on wins. its not a good look for the factory as a whole. Rossi contributed to the factory results early in the year. without him, itd look even worse.

I am a huge Rossi fan, but here's the thing. Rossi in now significantly slower than ALL the other Yamahas. The other riders have found something in the bike that he is unable to find. Which makes one thing really obvious- it's not the bike, it's HIM.
I would like to see him do a Victory Tour next year. Do a couple parade laps popping wheelies and let the fans cheer. Then he can move into management of the Factory Team.

i do think they'll milk the going away party all season next year- MM wouldnt be too sad about the VR attention if he wins next season. However, if another rider happens to be the points leader at the end of the season, its gonna be sucky for them

Pretty sure Rossi will remain in gp paddock after retiring, he already owns/manages a moto3 team no?
