A little more information on the down rider on 9. This come to my inbox by way of the NorCal SVRider's mailing list:

It was on highway 9 about a 1/4 mile down from four corners. It was a blue sv (I thought it was a naked – ) going down the hill that totally missed a left hand turn and ran into a dirt hill. The riders that were with him said that he was okay except for a broken ankle, even laughing; but was airlifted out anyways. When I went by the CHP was marking the skid marks off the side of the road.

Great Ride!

Group 12 was the BOMB!

Thanks Jon and Aris for leading and watching out for me. Those were great looking lines out there. I need more practice to take those tighter turns going down on 84.

Isnt it a little over kill to send a guy out in a chopper for a broken ankle??? I mean yes broken bone is not good but i would imagine the ambulance is more than capable of a safe transport at a WAY LESS Cost to the downed rider.

Im mean amblunance run is what $3000+ whats an AIR trip cost?? $10k???

anyway glad to hear the guy was ok, we drove by when they were cuttin his gear off.

I heard somewhere they automatically send the chopper in remote areas due to respond time and possible internal injuries associated with bike crashes.

Luckily this rider didnt really need it, but it always better to be safe than sorry.

FWIW my chopper ride was $13,000.00

And now back to our previously scheduled post......;)

yao,

unfortunately, i am the downed rider. i was cool going in an ambulance, but they weren't letting me call the shots.

anyway, i went in too hot into the turn, so as i went wide and ran out of road, the dirt put my bike back upright and high sided me into the hill.

my ankle is not broken, but it might as well be since it's a cankle. my shoulder was dislocated, and i had a tiny collapse of the lung.

sorry for the traffic delay. next time i'll join y'all for the "ride for life".

late,

dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for posting and letting us know your doing okay. I broke my ankle once (playing soccer) and I know how painful that type of injury is.

I hope you have a quick recovery and will be out riding soon. :)

Glad that you were not more seriously hurt than you were. They tend to not let people who've bent them selves up make choices in how they're going to get down the mountain if they can't walk or use their arm. The popo and firemen are funny that way. Something about covering their own asses with good cause or somthing like that.

Like I said, good to hear from you and I hope that you recover quickly.
