In 1986 Rotary International started its Polio Plus campaign to eradicate polio from the face of the earth. A crippling disease, it leaves its victims struggling to walk and lead a normal life. In 1988 the Mountain View Rotary sponsored the “Race For Life”, an event that supplied 10,000 immunizations for kids in many countries.

Now, in 2003, 15 years later, polio has been almost defeated and Mountain View Rotary and Bay Area Rider Forum (BARF) are collaborating in bringing motorcyclists together in the “Ride For Life”.

This event will feature two hundred and fifty or more motorcyclists enjoying the scenic hills and coast west of Silicon Valley and each other, while raising funds to put the stake in polio’s grave.

The event itself will feature two routes through the Santa Cruz mountains and coast with an assembly in Palo Alto at Gunn High School and a Police escorted parade for the last mile to the Palo Alto Elks Lodge for a large gathering and barbeque and refreshments for the entire afternoon.

The two routes will also have an opposite route being run so you'll see many of the groups on the road and have the oppurtunity to wave or give them the barf salute..

Music from 2-4pm by Cole Hamilin and friends a local Jazz trio.

Local press will be contacted to report or inform per their disciplines.

We would love to have you join us in eradicating polio from mankind. One less thing to worry about in today’s world.

When :June 7th 9:00-9:30 AM Ride: 10am -10:30 AM and Barbaque at the Elks Lodge picnic area from 1:30 - 4:30pm.
Where: Palo Alto Elks Lodge Front Parking Lot
4297 El Camino Real , Palo Alto, Ca.

Cost : $30.oo includes Event T-shirt, Patch and the barbaque.

Barbeque Only :$ 12.oo (you don't have to ride to have fun!)

T-shirt Only: $12.oo (Want to help, but can't make it.)

Patch Only: $5.oo

There will be a raffle with prizes. Various Moto-vendors displaying product or services and a great chance to socialize with the good peeps of BARF all for a good cause.

You can sign up here: http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/events/events.php?s=&action=add&event=1

So mark your calendars and join BARF and Rotary in helping wipe Polio of the face of the earth forever! Every 10cents donated immunizes one child through matching funds of Rotary International and the World Health Organization.

Below is a pic from the "Race For Life" a charity event for the same cause put together by in '88.

Thanks

Sounds good. I'll be there.

Any idea on routes yet?

We are going to develop routes very soon. There will be two.

A longer more technical loop and an easier shorter one so we can all hook up at the same time for the parade to the Q.

Pm Me if you have specific ideas! :teeth

BTW, great advert photo! I like the font for "2-Hipp Racing" at the bottom of the pic. That really takes me back to the 80s...
